Deadline reporting new Trek series, what about fan productions?

Can we take that then to mean the hammer has fallen? CBS doesn't want you guys producing Renegades concurrently with them producing Trek 2017? Or is that too far an assumption to make?

I think you're assuming too much.

It's going to be up to the producer what he does next.

Browsing through her posts, it appears that she is the one speculating that ST:R is dead, rather than them receiving a C&D. Hard to be sure.

I don't know. It certainly stands to reason that perhaps the Renegades team wants to get this second/final episode done before the new series premieres, and if so perhaps because they've been given marching orders not to produce anything concurrently with the new show. All of it is theory at this point of course, which is why I asked the question. Either way, I'm sure we'll know one way or the other eventually.

CBS has not contacted us. Out of respect to CBS's new series, we don't want to be running funding drives around the time of the new series premiere. We believe (and we very much want to) at least get Episode 2 funded and shot with in the next 4 months and released no later than Fall 2016. If we get up to 650k On this Kickstarter we can get Episode 3 in there, filmed back to back. At the current pace of the KS it does not look like funding for Episode 3 will be possible and we don't want to run a future drive to close to the new series premiere. If we get funding for episode 2 we may run another small drive after the shoot to help with VFX and any cost overruns.

We want to realistic to our donors and ourselves and not try to promise things that may be out of our reach.

It not over unless the Kickstarter fails. We are considering dropping episode 3 and making one final episode and expanding it to 60 minutes. We are actively discussing it. We really want to give Water his last performance.
This doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

I wonder why Ms. Snodgrass felt she had to get out in front of this on her own, rather than coordinate a position/statement with the entire Renegades production staff? Seems like only yesterday that she'd signed on, anyhow.

Does this mean that any work that she's done up to this point may not be used, as she's preemptively distancing herself from this production?

Anyhow, I hope Tom and his team good luck- hopefully they can work behind the scenes and get a clear answer about how to proceed. Shame that CBS/Viacom remains so bifurcated in all things Trek.

Oh, and why does everyone who was once any kind of lawyer always feel the need to remind us of their former storied profession every...single... time something "official" happens?

Anytime I see that- (Either from Peters or anyone else) I immediately follow it with my favorite catchphrase:

"Denny Crane!"

I can't speak to Snodgrass, but Peters has always struck me as incredibly insecure, both from his repeatedly asserting how "professional" his project is (and reminding everyone he's an attorney) but also in his relentless efforts to tamp down on anyone who disagrees with or criticizes him; one need only to read the old Axanar thread here to find evidence of that. (Never mind the endless one-man crusade he seems to be leading against Vic Mignogna.)

I don't know the man so I can't say this is how he is 100% of the time or that it's the entirety of his character, but most of what I've seen of his behavior online typically leans toward this end of the spectrum. I'd probably have a completely different opinion if I ever met the guy.

Since Lawyers are typically skilled in Rhetoric, and debate, while it's a logical fallacy, Argument from Authority is effective, and I think most lawyers know that.

He isn't. He's actually a pretty decent, open, helpful and likeable guy in my experience.

I've generally found most people don't particularly resemble their online personas, good or bad. :)

Look at it this way, is the new trek series fails (it is risky because it on there streaming service after all) then fan productions will be popular as ever. :)

I think the Streaming Service is the least risky thing they could do....

I don't know why some folks can't allow that both professional films and series can exist right along side fan films. The Star Wars crowd certainly does.

Would seem a sensible attitude. :techman: Personally I've always found all the febrile speculation about CBS lawyers and the hammer coming down that is wont to go on here a bit comical.

Now if only Meyers had put that in the script for TWoK....

ZOMG. You know what we need? I'm talking need in like, almost-if-not-quite a Maszlow's Hierarchy sense of the term?

A Denny Crane cameo in a Trek series.

IT MUST HAPPEN.

Well, the concern when Disney took over was what stance would they take. I think it is simply a matter of when the lawyers feel that sufficient problems are being caused by fan productions then things will change.

I've been waiting for it to happen to SW films for a while now.

I want them to continue (and they will, in some form and always will) but I know that it is a tenuous relationship.
