Deadline reporting new Trek series, what about fan productions?

You're right. I can't be 100% certain. But I'd say the time of the post, the responses to said post and Burnett's historical responses would lead me to believe my assumption is fairly accurate.

I think Mr. Burnetts answer is very honest. He did not diss it and he did not praise it. And how could you? - since we know basically NOTHING about the new series.

The praise from STC to me reads just like a generic answer, with a bit of lube.

I´d take the honest answer over that any time.

If someone is gracious enough to let me play in their sand box, I am going to be gracious in my comments about said sand box.... It's decency and common sense.

Yep.
You can be honest and polite.
Perhaps, internally you are seething at the fact that what you have worked so hard on might be ground into dust or lose its relevancy, but there is no reason to make public statements that allude to your ambiguity. Just lie back and think of England

Honestly, WhateverGate is like the least interesting thing ever. I'm sure it does pertain to the new series but I don't see the percentage in going into a twist over every syllable Burnett utters or doesn't.

At any point, CBS has the legal footing to shut them down, all of them, and the Lawyers have also made that clear, they exist only at the graces of CBS, and with this endeavor, it's very likely those graces will change.
This is not news to anyone producing fanfilms.

Precisely so, and that can be expanded to include all fandoms.

It is all a matter of is it worthwhile to pursue any action at all on the part of the copyright holder.

The studio will do what they feel they have to. We all know we exist at their grace, and I think you'll find by far the majority of us are grateful for that grace.

Seeing as the only thing the Axanar team has been producing recently is Facebook posts, there aren't a lot of options when it comes to things that fans can over-analyze. ;)

+1

Lol - "WhateverGate" is hilarious.

Facebook has always been Axanars primary tool for communication - and if I look into the fan group, there is a ton of new posts - most of the recent ones illustrating the current filming of the vignettes on the New Voyages sets.

Before that, Mr. Burnett showed us the process of how the animatics are done.

And they have blog entries on their website every couple of days.

I really don´t know what else they should do. Compared to other fan productions, this is a pretty decent amount of communication.

LOL, CNN shows STR in the background while talking about the new series. Now if only they could have only shown Kickstarter link in there also. ;)

And that's why CBS will shut down the fan productions. There is already confusion...

There is that point, isn't there? I wonder what someone from CBS would make of that segment?

That's hilarious and sad all at once, speaking just as much to the absurd lack of scholarship and journalism over at CNN. Damning for Renegades too, I'd think, and further proof that non-Trek fans literally can't tell the difference between the fan films and the officially produced content.

Melinda Snodgrass just posted the following on her Facebook page.

Well, that was fun while it lasted. As I feared the CBS news has killed Renegades.

I hope Tom will be able to offer some further insight on this.

Snodgrass has commented further:

More on Renegades. Here's the situation with trying to do a show when CBS is doing a show. The network and studio could let the fans live in cracks when they weren't making content. A wink and a nod sort of thing, but I think they are endangering their ownership if they don't vigorously defend their property especially when they have a new show.
I think they could turn a blind eye to the New Voyages because those are original Trek with actors pretending to be Shatner and Nimoy playing Kirk and Spock.
Renegades was an original idea with some characters from Deep Space 9 and Voyager, but mostly new characters. That really makes it direct competition to the CBS show. I think it would be very dangerous from the team trying to mount this show to continue. This is me as the former lawyer talking.

Sounds like if she's right, it could be pretty damning for productions like Axanar and perhaps Farragut too. :(

It not over unless the Kickstarter fails. We are considering dropping episode 3 and making one final episode and expanding it to 60 minutes. We are actively discussing it. We really want to give Water his last performance.
