Series 9 - Coming September 19! (And a trailer!)

No, its obvious he's an egotistic ass who wouldn't do the job he was paid for unless he got to get his wardrobe from the back of his own closet. I'll watch the show because I'm not going to skip Doctor Who (I watched all of the 7th Doctor's era, and the last two seasons of that were pretty atrocious). I can enjoy the 12th Doctor and still think Capaldi is an ass. Eventually he'll be gone back to realitive obscurity, and the show won't be saddled to his every whim. Until then, I'll just grit my teeth and hope Moffat can at least force Capaldi to actually follow the scripts and do his job without totally destroying the role.

Is there any proof that his been going off the scripts? And really it was Tom Baker who went of the scripts and refused to take direction.

No, and I wasn't trying to say that he was, just that it seemed like the next logic step for him.

so basically you are butthurt that Colin had zero input and Capaldi, according to you has 100%.

Nope. I'm not very disappointed that Colin didn't get to choose, because I love the coat ;) I'm saying that no Doctor should get a choice, they're the actors, not producers, and they're not bigger than the show.

I liked the purple jacket, too. :)

It was just so classy, and still so quirky! Not many men can pull off purple.

It really suited him, far more than the lighter jacket of the earlier seasons.

I have a plush 11th Doctor in the purple jacket with the fez. :)

Aww! I've seen it on HT's website but the hair doesn't look right to me. I agree, and I think it's because the purple coat was longer and more fitted to his frame.

So what do you want to see? A white button shirt?

EDIT: And I admit, it does look close to wearing sleepwear here

I want his actual costume. You know, the "magician" stuff. The Doctor's don't dress the same, but they all have their own styles, and "average lazy saturday morning human who just woke up" isn't something the Doctor should wear.

If any of the Doctors had a "lazy" outfit it was Eccleston, he ccertainly didn't like an eccentric Englishman.

But he looked interesting, and had a style that wasn't lazy looking. The Doctor's don't (and shouldn't) all dress the same, but they should have attires that had some effort put into them, not just (apparently literally) clothes grabbed out of the actor's closet.

It was fairly lazy though, he dressed like a normal person not an alien or an eccentric Englishman. There was a massive uproar among the fans when the first picture of him reached the net. By comparison Capaldi was compared to Pertwee, when his outfit was first revealed.

Most of the time... 3 and 11 both stole their starting costumes from earther hospitals, but I was saying that most of the time, the "costume" is selected from the TARDIS's wardrobe room.

That means that these clothes were previously to the taste of an earlier companion or an earlier Doctor.

Hmmm.

Maybe that's what watchers do most of the time?

Save the day when the universe is on the Brink, or pick out new clothes and make sure that they are within an arms reach of himself during the worst fits of their impending regeneration sickness.

I wonder how "helpful" the Master's Watchers have been?

What about Braxton Hicks Watchers?

If you help out too much, then you don't die, don't regenerate, and you're a paradox who vanishes into nonexistantness. #### that.

There has to be a certain level of Murderousness in a Watcher that they want as much as need the primary body to somehow get himself (or herself) to kick the bucket so that they can stop being a terminal understudy.

Do you remember Gravelings from Dead like Me?

Yeah.

Like That.

:)

Maybe the reason the Master burnt through all his bodies so quickly is because all his Watchers were utter ####s?

The hair is wrong, but it's also a plush, so I'll make allowances. :)

He hangs out on my sofa with my ultimate plush TARDIS team -- Teddy Roosevelt, Tigger, and Snoopy as the World War I Flying Ace.

That's quite a mix you've got there! I also have a few plushies, scattered around my bedroom. My favourite is my custom Ditto (Pokemon). I had to wait 16 years to get him.

Guy, Dead Like Me... I miss that show!

I still think its stupid. At this point, they're not dressing as The Doctor. They're dressing like basically any random person on their day off. Capaldi putting on jeans does not mean kids wearing jeans are now dressed as The Doctor. He's an alien, he's not supposed to dress like he stole some of Rory's clothes he left in the tARDIS. The Doctor has gone 50 years without caring about whether kids can dress as him, so I don't consider that a valid reason for anything. Besides, it mostly seems like Capaldi is a bit of an ass, and just wanted to wear clothes that are easier to put on/more comfortable to lounge around in. Its stupid, and it gives me a very poor opinion of Capaldi. He's basically bullying the show into letting him wear whatever he had at the back of his closet, or at least the equivalent of that, regardless of the fact it goes against the character and, in my opinion, ruins The Doctor's credibility more than a rainbow coat or a munch of question marks ever could.

He's the first Doctor Who actor who seems like a gigantic a-hole. Even when I hated the 7th Doctor, I thought McCoy was a nice guy and a decent actor. Capaldi seems to have a huge ego and be a very self centered person, and the fact that the people making the show are basically letting him go wild sucks. Colin Baker wasn't allowed to say what he got to wear, and (as much as I love the coat) he had legitimate reasons to want different clothes. Capaldi sure as hell shouldn't be making those decisions. Its really soured me to the 12th Doctor, although I won't miss Series 9. I will be very happy when he regenerates, though. I hope its something stupid, like the 7th Doctor's medical malpractice death or the 6th Doctor's head banging into the TARDIS console.

Capaldi isn't the first Doctor who got to choose his costume, both Tennant and Smith got to as well. Smith most notably went against Moffat's wishes to wear the "pirate outfit." Also, the bowtie was Smith's idea entirely and something else he argued with Moffat over.

Paul McGann's Doctor also took his clothes from a hospital staff.

I found an old pair of Ray Bans I had put away years ago that look like the ones I've seen in a couple of preview pics so maybe I can pretend to be the Doctor now. :)

EDIT: Not exactly the most affordable way for people to dress like the Doctor though! I suppose cheap knock-offs could be found pretty readily though.

Those clothes seemed to be a halloween costume though.
