Star Trek: Renegades

Would you question the changing Dr King story to Nichols face? Or suggest to Takei that he needs to get over his (maybe put on) grudge with Shatner?

I met Karl Urban face-to-face, and somehow restrained myself from asking 'What made you think a remake of 'And Soon, The Darkness' was a good idea? People weren't extraordinarily fond of it the first time!'

Yeah, but people who show up for panels are generally fans and thus it's a game of softball.

Funny, I thought people on TrekBBS were fans too...

Fans of what? Axanar? That was my point.

Fans of Star Trek. I think the quota of Axanar or Renegades fans among a convention is similar to the quota you will find here. Of course only those slightly interested (positive and negative) would show up to a panel

But as Hela said - it is much easier to voice any accusations or doubts under the anonymity of the internet than face to face.

But this is really getting way out of topic - sorry for that.

Well, that and when you have limited time (like you do at a convention) you tend to only say the stuff that you really want to say.

So in my five minutes with Karl Urban, I told him that I liked Dredd, got him to write a message for my sick younger brother who was meant to come and had loved the movie, and asked about a sequel (answer: probably not, but it would be nice.)

And if you do look like you're going to derail the conversation into an arguement, you tend to get drowned out by boos before you even finish the question. I've seen that happen once - I think the guest was The Hoff, and the question was insanely personal.

The worst question I heard at a convention was to John De Lancie. "Have you accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal savior?"

John: Next question!

Again, so what? The work is what REALLY matters...

That may be how most potential donors feel.

Discussions of behind-the-scenes drama and public decorum hasn't put a drag on any of these efforts reaching their crowdfunding goals.

Axanar currently has 6,902 backers on Indiegogo. They had 8,548 backers on Kickstarter.

New Voyages had 1,093 backers for their 2014 Kickstarter; their 2015 effort had 788 backers.

Continues had 2,619 backers for their 2015 Kickstarter; and 2,981 backers for their 2014 effort (though the 2015 fundraiser actually brought in more money).

Make of that what you will.

Much of those numbers are overlapped. For instance, I would make a bet that almost 50% of Axanar's KS backers are also backers on the new Indiegogo drive.

STC overlap ratio is probably a much higher ratio because they were funding different episodes with each of those 2 drives and I'm sure had probably 80% of the same backers for the second drive for new episodes.

Certainly. It was not my intention to imply otherwise.

I think what Harvey is saying, is that by and large that we have seen an overall reduction in the number of individual donors to each of these high profile fan films.... I don't know that you can necessarily tie all of these drops to bickering, I also think just the number of fundraisers, from these, to renegades, to captain pike, to the Spock Documentary... there are lots of hands open to take Trek Fans' dollars.... and I think we may be reaching a point where we are going to see depreciating returns... especially as projects ask for funds in multiple fundraisers....

There's definitely a case of diminishing returns, but I think it's going to hit Axanar harder than STC, NV/PII, and now Renegades just because of basic psychology: going back to the well for the same thing again and again is a lot harder to swallow than when the new money is going for new episodes.

I think fan films that continue to put out on a regular schedule, good quality content, will probably see those funds continue (maybe at an albeit reduced amount than the 200K STC took in last time) to come in.

I think Renegades, and now Axanar is suffering through having to raise funds through multiple fundraising initiatives for a single project is going to be a struggle...

I also think a completed project is always a good start for a fundraiser... So Renegades may do alright in their next one.... For Axanar, they really need to get what they can done, done, (two acts is what Alec said they were shooting for in January) before their next fundraiser, or it's gonna be sunk..... But I really do think their ability to complete this film will all depend on how much funds they are able to raise in their next one.... and whether that's enough to complete the film.. I can't see them going back to the trough a fifth time....

Again, why is this topic always circling down the drain that is Axanar? Can we get back to discussing Renegades?

Agreed.

Getting back on the topic of Renegades:

It seems that those cheeky chaps from Renegades are running a little side project.

Renegades: Destiny Aurora Chronicles-Miniatures Board Game (It's on Kickstarter, otherwise I'd link to it.)

Thoughts?

Do people still play physical board games? Sounds like a good idea if you have the players. Last board game I played was online.

John: Next question!

Maybe it was a joke about the fact that he guest starred in an episode of "Touched By An Angel." :shifty:

Absolutely! Astoundingly, this market is going very strong. It´s incredible how many new games come out each year.
