DEFIANCE Season 3

No. That's just how sublight space travel works when the jouney is longer than a lifespan, or the ship would have to be unimaginably larger to stock water, food and air to keep that many people alive for even a couple weeks.

Earth is four light hours from Pluto. it's just a question of figuring out how the fuck their star drives work, becuase that looked like they were using something...

It's called a tachmag drive.

Tacheyons + magentism?

I found one reference in a gamer forum that Tachmag drives can run at light speed, without much clarification about how long it can do that, or what universal properties are at work, because although the trip took 5000 years, I doubt hat the ships are 5000 years old unless nanites and AI rebuilt the Arks from the molecules up 20 thousand times while they were in transit.

What the #### was that behind the Moon?

He would be better off getting another Andina.

Not necessarly. Irisa could much better defend the family . Alak is like Captain Picard in the 1st season of TNG. icard surrendered the ship 4 times then, and Alak lost the baby twice.

I think Alak could provide more stable emotional support. ANd he can learn from Irisa (and possibly Nolan if he comes back) how NOT to be a dad.

In a cost-cutting move, SyFy will merge their Friday shows into one. Nolan becomes a Killjoy and they go after the Raza.

Well, they could do a commercial like the Flash-Arrow in Thunderdome, which was like 3 minutes and totally non-canon...but a lot of fun, and more excited for the rest of the season.

If they could do a longer non-canon video, that'd be even better

I wonder if this really will be the last we see of Nolan and Yewll.
I knew as soon as Nolan's gun went info the spinning blade thing that the fight would end with one of them going into it. You don't introduce something like that into a fight scene without at least one person going in.
I really liked the scene between Stahma and Amanda.
Datak saving his family was great. It was inevitable, but still a great moment.
I'm kind of surprised Irisa became Lawkeeper, I would have Berlin given her experience.
It was kind of nice, after all of the death and destruction to see to see them find a peaceful solution. It wouldn't have bothered me if they did blow up the ship, but it was nice to see them find a different way, even if it did possibly cost us Yewll and Nolan.

Well, if the show is cancelled, then it definitely will be the last we see of them.

But I think this ending wil open some doors for next season. Perhaps a new race of aliens that Nolan encounters comes to earth. Or some journey to find a way home

And for the actress who plays Yewell, the set up will at least allow her to have more dialogue in the show , and less need for make-up (theoretically).
I had to same thought about how Nolan could return. Have we ever had any indication of aliens other than the Votan? There's no reason there couldn't be, but I was just wonder if we've heard Votans make specific references to races that weren't from their system or Earth.

If the show does come back I'm expecting there to be some kind of response from the VC for Nolan killing the Vice Chancellor, if he does return that is. If they find out he is gone then they might be a little more forgiving.
One thing I forgot to mention in my first reaction post that surprised me was the different title screen this time. Instead of far shot of the town with the ruins of the Arch behind it, it was closer shot of the town with people wandering street.

It took the Votan's 5000 years to get to Earth.

1. They travelled through real space at relativistic speeds.

2. Even at 3 times light speed, the Votan system was still 15,000 light years away.

3. They travelled through a version of sub space that minics the properties of time dilation.

UM.

Was the only one who saw that Stargate behind Earth's moon?

What Stargate?

And yes even in the defiance back story it took them 5000 years to get to Earth. Although some of them were here long before that. The episode in season 1 with the astronaut for one. He was captured by Votans and duplicated...

The glowing space vagina with the universe on the other side of it.

The massive Arcs moved slower in a convoy than a single speedy scout ship.

It's possible, especially from the effect used, that they bunny hop at light speed for seconds at a time, and rather than constantly accelerating, there's constantly almost returning to standing still, all the way to their final destination.

Sounds like how Galactica travels

Excellent season ender and if indeed it is the series finale, it works perfectly as one too. Some things were predictable, like the minute we see Omec children on the ship you know damn well they aren't going to blow the ship after all. As someone else mentioned, seeing those giant fans in the engine room made it clear to me how Kindzy was going to be killed. And now Nolan's gun is destroyed. It's funny just how often he loses that gun or someone steals it from him, now its gone for good.

I did like the sequence with Nolan sitting in the command chair and looking out the viewport. Also the ending showing his journey through the galaxy was a nice sequence. It's one of those things that captures the awe and wonder of space travel in a way I haven't seen done in a while. Really good stuff.

But I really don't see how the series can go on now. Nolan is once again away, and this time there isn't really a convenient way for him to get back. Most of the various character arcs seem resolved, Amanda and Stahma kind of patched things up, the Tarr family is on speaking terms again. Sure, I like this show enough that I will miss it should it really end, but this is a perfect ending that few TV shows ever accomplish. Why ruin that?

Personally, no matter how hot and useful Stahma has been, I would never pardon her for the murder of that deputy. That was just flat-out first degree. Does Amanda know she killed Kenya too?

The "stargate" was what the Omec ship used to travel. When they showed everyone looking up at the sky you could see the ship opening the portals as it left orbit. They weren't there before.

The town is still around and most of the characters are still alive, that's all we need for the show to continue. I've seen shows tie up arcs even more thoroughly than this did and continue on for years.

If Nolan starts eating Omec hearts, would that make him functionally immortal for as long as he continued eating Omec hearts?

it's just that when Yewll said the engine was going to throw the ship out of the solar system at fantastic speed, that's a comment about pushing 0.3 c in real space not 75c via sub space.

We saw "Nolan's" ship go past the moon, Jupiter, Uranis and Neptune in seconds.

(6 weeks later)

So either what we saw, tracking nolan's exhaust fumes was figurative, or how they caused the ship to almost blow up did something new and unexpected to the star drive, which is why he is half a galaxy away in 6 weeks and he is ripping holes in space that do not seal up.

It's possible some one could follow Nolan's trail back to Earth?

She does know.

But somehow got over it. She's such a numpty sometimes the way they write her.

Well she did stab Stahma with a letter opener, and sentence Datak to death by having his limbs pulled out of their sockets, so that might have helped.

I liked her more when she was a junkie but that's not really something you can tell people, right?

That's because Junkie's are practical people.

They will say "yes" to anything, until you turn your back on them, and they take your kidneys.

Yeah but that sentence was never carried out at all was it?
