Star Trek: Renegades

Thanks for the feedback, while I could explain the various reasons why things happened the way they did, its not worth going into. We strive to make the next episode even better. New designs are on the table for many things (even the uniforms, you guys love so much ;) ). The stories are being worked on and even some more seasoned Hollywood professionals coming on board to help us out.

Focus on story, the Icarus interiors, And paint those star fleet walls..... If you do those things I promise episode 2 will be better received, and that will help funding for episode 3

The First Contact style is good enough, and is available off the shelf and those would look better than the current pyjamas, even ill fitting ones. Are the custom uniforms a matter of necessity? Because if not, I'd ditch that particular piece of vanity and go with something fans are familiar with and isn't ridiculously goofy looking.

Using custom uniforms lets you say your borrowing less from CBS IP.... So I get custom uniforms... But they should be similar in style to what has come before....

The other thing I noticed on rewatch of that scene is that Nemec is another person who is wearing a uniform more fitting for sleeping in.

Everytime I saw someone in a Starfleet uniform, it felt a bit like when you see a kid trying on an adults clothes in dress-up. And some of the femme outfits just felt a bit cosplayer-ish.

But I'm more impressed you've rewatched any of it :) And Tom acknowledges they're going to address wardrobe (and other other important issues)

But they're already using the Starfleet delta, a relative of Khan, a spaceship named after a character, three canon characters. So I'm not sure the uniforms really matter.

I would hardly think so. Copyright infringement isn't a matter of degree. Either you're using intellectual property that you don't own, or you're not.

We are not avoiding IP usage, Star Trek is in the title so you already using IP right there. Levels of IP usage make no sense, if you use just one thing then you are beholden to CBS.

There is a bunch of things we want to change and improve on. We would like to build an a new Icarus set for instance but that depends on how much we get from crowd funding. If we had back to Laurel Canyon and used the 'Serenity' bridge we can fix it up a bit differently. Storywise, one line would explain why the bridge looks different (than the pilot), Like Lexxa walking on the bridge and telling Fixer that the bridge renovation is looking good or something near the beginning of the episode. The important thing this time is keeping a consistency from Episode 2 on-wards in everything. If we can't have a fixed stage (again depends on the money) we need to store the sets somewhere etc...

Our production designer already has tons of new designs from uniforms, costumes to interiors all sketched out.

Each episode will be about 44 minutes long. The space ships digital models (like the Icarus and the Archer will stay the same so we can plug them into new VFX shots. There are already plans to a have some other appearances from a character or two from a previous trek series. So lots to be excited about.

That doesn't excite me at all. I'd be far more interested if you guys were blazing your own trail through the Trek universe.

I have to agree. This is an opportunity to tell a different and exciting story within the Trek universe. Keeping it connected to existing Trek doesn't do a lot to change the universe. I mean, after the pilots of all of the modern Treks where there was a "baton passer" (McCoy, Picard, Quark, Cochrane, Spock Prime), they really tried to go their own way. Sure, there was an occasional appearance from another character from a series, and ya know, Worf on DS9, but for the most part, own way.

Bringing some people from the previous series – who are alive and involved in-universe anyway – is not mutually exclusive with blazing your own trail. Given the pilot film, it seems unreasonable not to bring someone – the Federation is already established half-foe/half-ally, and that's basically all made of people from the previous series. You need to blaze your own trail somewhere. A connection is inevitable.

Not that I disagree with the sentiment – I hope the focus on bringing people back isn't so big it hinder the series' own story, which still has the potential to turn great. I just don't see anything not good about what Tom said as stated.

Now focusing on the explanation for the set change, on the other hand... I hope it's just an excuse to get Fixer involved in a humorous or emotional exchange. :p

I agree. Nemec was servicable in the role, but the character (as written) was far from what we've come to expect in the Starfleet hero captains we've known so far. There's a level of ineptitude at play (largely due to the lackluster script and characterization) that can't be ignored with his character.

There is also the bum note of "I'll get a medal for this!" - I just cannot picture a Starfleet captain saying this over an open comm (well except for Stiles and he was *suppose* to an ass-hole).

The other thing I noticed on rewatch of that scene is that Nemec is another person who is wearing a uniform more fitting for sleeping in.

Agreed on both points. I mean, picture Picard or Sisko saying those lines. It just doesn't work, given what we're supposed to know and understand about the kinds of people that are Starfleet captains.

And yes, after the cadre of script editors they will hopefully engage, Renegades will hopefully reconsider those pajama uniforms.

Hell, picture Kirk saying the line. He has a reputation for shoot from the hip tactics, but James Kirk tried to be diplomatic first, resorting to violence when it appeared to be the only effective option.

Isn't “I'll get a medal for this” what you say before doing something that is the polar opposite of medal-worthy?

I think everything worked quite well for Captain Which-Idiot-Gave-Me-A-Ship. It's the reputation of the Icarus that is keeping him afloat, which makes his ship worst to face off with. If you are a rogue ship – especially one with a legitimate world-saving mission – you'd want to be chased by Kirk, Sisko, Picard or Archer.

If they hooked a dynamo to Archer's grave, it would be enough to provide power for the portal-dimmed Earth for centuries.

Yes, I like him.

One of the main things I was confused about which I hope someone can clear up, when Earth was covered by the portal, a big deal was made about how unless they find a solution it's the end of the world. Then moments later everyone starts beaming down to the surface with no difficulty. Surely this means that it's possible to beam up and evacuate the planet?

Billions of people would take an extreme amount of time, ships and manpower to beam up.

But it was said that they had several months left. There must be many ships, stations, and bases in the solar system capable of assisting.

See, the fact you feel like a line of dialogue is needed to address a change in the set does not inspire me with confidence. It's a set that looked kinda crappy in your pilot and now it (hopefully) looks nicer - thats a shorthand the audience can pick up on with their eyes. The nitpicky Trek fans don't have to worry about it, because you have plenty of problems bigger than that with the project as is.

Can somebody explain to me, what make the explosion of a Federation Mining Planet and the death of Starfleet Officers become "OUTSIDE" of the Starfleet Jurisdiction? And force the Chief of Security to outsourcing his agent? Except of course they are the member of Section 31. But they are not.

I think Tuvok is not a good Section 31 commander. Because he doesn't even has a trusty agent under his own wing.

And how could a Federation Starbase at the Earth Orbit doing nothing when the Earth is attacked by the enemy? Don't they have a group of ships there? We don't even see them when the enemy attack; but we see them after everything over. Isn't it confusing?
