I'll keep that in mind for when I finish season 4.
I'm up to episode 8. I'm enjoying it except that Rose is just really irritating me. Can't wait until she is gone. I'm just trying to focus on the Doctor and ignore her. I don't know about Donna and Martha but they've got to be better than her. I could have liked Mickey but then he stayed behind, obviously to push the Doctor and Rose closer together. I really liked The Girl In The Fireplace and the Cybermen two-parter.

The two episodes (Empty Child /the Doctor Dances) are also the source of I think a half dozen running gags in Doctor Who. There are certainly three that link to River Song and at least one that linked to The Girl in the Fireplace. Plus one or two reference ones that are funny on their own, but silly once you know what the reference is.

I'm trying to think, what are the three running gags you're referring to? Bananas, squareness gun... "I once dated a..." ?

The episodes you're on right now are pretty good, although a bit deriative of films like Alien and Event Horizon (Then again, a lot of Doctor Who episodes are riffs on classic horror themes). They also introduce the Ood, a recurring alien species who you've probably already seen in The Doctor's Wife.
Unfortunately, they're followed by two of what are considered the worst of the series: "Love and Monsters" and "Fear Her". Love and Monsters has an interesting concept, one that would be later explored more sucesfully in "Blink" and later episodes-the "Doctor lite" episode, which tells the story from the POV of a companion or bystander who has to help the Doctor in some fashion. Funny thing is, while Love and Monsters is pretty bad (Especially hurt by some crude humor), "Blink" (Written by Moffat) is considered one of the very best, and introduces the Weeping Angels.
"Fear Her" is mainly 'meh' and kind of corny, although it does have some interesting imagery.

Thanks for the heads up. I like the Ood, don't know why. The Weeping Angels scare me to death! They have ruined me for anything angel-like.
I'm about 20 minutes into Love & Monsters, and yeah pretty damn boring but I had to pause it because right away I noticed a mistake. When the guy (Elton, I think) is talking about the store mannequins coming to life, that was the pilot episode, when the Doctor was still Nine. But before that he mentions first seeing the Doctor as a little boy, the Doctor is Ten.

Well, the Doctor is a time traveler, so he can appear in points in time before his earlier incarnations. It's really only when he encounters himself that things get a bit "timey wimey" so to speak.
Cool! I'll definitely have to check it out... Eventually. I thought she was greatUnlike Clara, I doubt I'll ever warm to Rose. She just rubs me the wrong way. I'm glad she won't be in season 3 and only a bit in 4.
Is Netflix your only source of streaming content? They have a pitiful selection of Classic Who, with only two Sarah Jane arcs available to stream ("The Ark in Space" and "Pyramids of Mars", both with the 4th Doctor) and SJA isn't available to stream at all.
Hulu Plus has a much better selection of Classic Who AND SJA available.
Yes Netflix is all I have but I'm thankful because for once it saves me from having to buy DVDs in order to watch something I haven't seen. Not that I mind but it's nice to be able to "test the waters" instead of spending money on something I might not like. They might update their selection. I'm in no rush. I still have seasons 3, 4, and 8 to try.

Love & Monsters is definitely a huge clunker. I just pretend it doesn't exist.
Yeah, it was the fifth Doctor suspecting Ten to be a fan and LINDA member, messing with him.
I couldn't finish it. I ended up skipping to the last 10 minutes. The one thing I took away from the episode was another Harry Potter actor, Moaning Myrtle. Don't know the actress's name.
So it's safe to say, that if you would have started with the rest of us, you would have jumped ship well early, and never met River and Amy.
If I wasn't enjoying a certain era then I probably would have stopped, yes. Though once David Tennant took over I would have given his seasons a try. The thing with Doctor Who that I'm liking is that you can start with (or wait for in some cases) a new doctor. It's not like you have to sit down and watch everything in it's entirety.
