New to Who

I'm finding the storylines are more interesting as well. Why did the Doctor only promise Martha one trip?

Because he's still hurting over Rose, and doesn't want to get attached to anyone else. He offered her the first trip just as a thank you for helping him with the Judoon and the Plasmavore. But then, as is always the way with the Doctor, things just kept happening.

That's what I was getting at, probably should have just said that. Okay I get that he can't really share a life with someone, so why the heck would he marry her with no intention of following through? Kind of a douchebaggy thing to do. Poor Lizzie.

You saw DotD, didn't you? He only asked her to marry him because he was trying to trick her into revealing herself as a Zygon. He never had any plans of going through with it. When it was revealed that the horse was the Zygon, not her, he was kind of trapped in the idea with a queen who wouldn't take no for an answer.

Yeah, apaprently he is the kind of person who just can't dump anyone.
Ask Marylin! lol

I guess I forgot about that in DOTD, okay got it. So he was still hurting from Rose but he had asked Donna to tag along, with no mention of a one trip deal. I find that weird.

he met Donna seconds after losing Rose, and The Runaway Bride on the whole was just hours after that. Don't expect him to act rationaly.
Reality didn't have time to sink in, esspecially with an apocalyptic crisis keeping him occupied.
meeting Martha was months later and he was in a completely different mindset then, having convinced himself that he is better off on his own and doing fine.

I'd forgotten that bit. Makes the results of "Turn Left" make more sense now with that in context.

Going ahead because I just thought of something. From the time the Doctor met modern Clara up until the start of The Time Of The Doctor, how long had she been travelling with him? Though I know she wasn't a full-time companion so maybe the better question is how long has she known the Doctor?

The guess is a year. It is hard to pin down due to her now working as a teacher in "Day of the Doctor" when the last time we saw them was "In the Name of the Doctor", with no known why how they got out or to where. (that is a mystery still)

Graduating from "Can't use computers" to Teacher, means that either she went to teacher's college for a couple years, or the Doctor faked her qualifications, to keep in line with the upgrades installed into her brain by the Great Intelligence.

It was also supposed that her "travelling" yen that was interrupted by her 2(?) year long baby sitting gig, was after she got her teaching degree, but really it would be odd to make it though that sort of training and retain any sort of computer illiteracy,

The Ten part of "Day of the Doctor" takes place in-between the specials Water Of Mars & End Of Time, and might explain why he treated Elizabeth so poorly.

Spoilers ahead.
Basically, the events of "Water Of Mars" do not end well for the Doctor. He sort of develops a superiority complex/temporary madness and briefly refers to himself as "Timelord Victorious" (Although he's shocked back into that by a death, saying that he's "Gone too far" and is trying to stop his death, which is prophesied by the Ood in "Planet of the Ood". So in that point he sort of comes off a bit more angsty, and darker than usual. Eleven of course goes through a similar arc, but I think he handled it much better.

After Gridlock I decided to jump around a bit and watched Planet Of The Ood, The Silence In The Library, and Forest Of The Dead. It was interesting to learn how the Ood came to be subservient and now I finally saw River's introduction.

I am prepared for the impending onslaught. I want to skip to season 8. *covers ears and hides in corner*

I watched 4 episodes of season 1, all of season 2, 4 of 3, and 3 of 4... And I just can't get into it. Nothing to do with the acting or the characters. I think it's more because of the writing. I'm finding myself only watching to get through them rather than enjoying them. Most of the time I feel bored. I like Martha and Donna. I like Ten too but he can sometimes be a bit of a jerk, especially to Martha (the beginning of The Shakespeare Code and dangling himself in front of her knowing full well she has a crush on him). Kind of mean.

I just don't feel as invested as I did with 5-7.

Hey, that's fine. Not every era of the Doctor is for everybody. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Twelve and the evolving Clara.

How did you feel about...

River "You look so young."

10 "I'm not, I'm really not."

:)

When regular people watched that so long ago, Tenant did look old.

Not so true any more.

I wouldn't say he looked old but I was surprised to learn his birth year. I thought he was older. Though it's kind of a funny comment coming from River. When she mentions "her doctor" Obviously the majority of the audience didn't know Eleven would be so young but I bet looking back at it, everyone has a good laugh.
