Agents of SHIELD - Season 2 Discussion Threads. (Spoilers Likely)

I guess that I appreciate the show's logical portrayal of a separate S.H.I.E.L.D. faction that has formed in the wake of the HYDRA revelation.

I wish that the show would address the fate of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who were mentioned to be in indefinite detainment by Talbot in the season 2 premiere.

Y'know, I wonder what Gonzales thinks of the Avengers. Promotional material for Avengers: Age of Ultron strongly suggests that the Avengers have been reassembled for some time prior to the events of the movie. I hope the show makes several nods towards this prior to the dedicated crossover episode.
Know what needs to happen? Ty Burrell needs to come on the show and be Skye's new therapist.
Oh yes!

The CIA uses Stars on a wall to give honour to their fallen secret opperatives.

Shield does the same? I think I saw a wall of stars at some point? Maybe in back to school episode?

Fury and Hand are obviously two of those stars if they are paying respect to the dead big guns from the transition of old old S.H.I.E.L.D. to new old S.H.I.E.L.D..

Fury is the biggest Star?

If Fury gave Coulson Billions in physical assets, and maybe trillions in actual cash, that's %15 fine to the rest of the world that gave that money to S.H.I.E.L.D. to save the world. Fury is however dead as far as they know. Coulson is not a legacy, and the torch was not passed. If they think that Fury is dead, then Coulson stole everything, and has to be stomped.

If they need to, they can recast the role without too many problems considering the way she looks now.

^^ True. It was a shame to do that to such a unique actress.

I loved the scene with Fitz and Simmons when they started gossiping about May and her ex, and suddenly all the awkwardness falls away. And Simmons says, seemingly in all innocence, "maybe if they spend more time together, their old feelings will return."

So, if go around the office raging about the dangers of Muslims, how they should be exterminated, and how I'm getting to work on that with my DNA analysis, should I be hurt and angry that my good friend and co-worker was terrified of telling me she was Muslim?

Simmons may actually have a point that Skye needs some meds, but she also needs to have her assholishness outed.

Just rewatching some earlier episodes and I'm surprised at how blatantly they telegraphed Mac not being on-board with Coulson's version of SHIELD.

All the talk about anything alien or otherwise "gifted" being a "freakshow" not trusting anyone that might be part alien might have just been his genuine feelings, but at the same time he seems to be feeling out where everyone's sympathies lie.

It's interesting how openly forthright he was about his general disapproval considering how Bobbi seemed to go out of her way to make friends with everyone. No doubt he'd also want to recruit Fitz, but I suspect Simmons may be the one more likely to switch sides if that's what it comes down to.

I was hoping the story wouldn't come to this. I wanted to like Olmos's character (since he's a good actor who played one of the few characters that wasn't ruined in NuBSG), but having another "Coulson's SHIELD is being destroyed by an outside force" story so soon after the Hydra and Talbot stuff is just annoying. I hope that we at least get to see May put Mockingbird in traction (or a bodybag), same with Coulson/Gonzalez and Hunter/Mac.

I definitely don't want to see Mac and Mockingbird survive this, at least not as anything but prisoners. I actually liked both characters before this stuff, but Coulson's SHIELD is the real one, end of story, and the fact that I hate that the show is going this direction just makes me want the characters gone. I'm still liking AoS a lot, but I hope this SHIELD vs. SHIELD story is over and done with quickly, and ends with a decisive victory for Coulson's team.

What i'm thinking is that EJO will be the new Nick Fury -- the behind the scenes director that gets pulled out 2 or 3 times a year, but in charge of all the administrative/ strategic stuff, so that frees Coulson to actually be out in the field.

After some quick bickering, our team gets to be an action team. Otherwise, they ought to be dept. heads, and sitting out most missions.

We'll see how it all plays out, especially after Avengers 2, i am sure.

Why should they be prisoners? Why does Coulson have any more moral or legitimate authority than they do? This group doesn't appear to be Hydra, they have the same goals as Coulson does, they just disagree over leadership and methods.

Yeah. I don't really see this as being a long drawn-out plot line when it ultimately comes down to:

The Real Slimshield: "We're the real SHIELD. See? Our logo is actually a shield."

Coulson: "Yeah, well, we got a guy who throws a shield. And see that big green looking dude over there? He's on our team too. So..."

The A-team still doesn't know Coulson is alive, but they're pretty loyal to him. Any would-be usurper international clandestine organization isn't going to get very far without them.

It's obviously a plot that can exist far beyond the scope of the show, and even then, I don't see how they can sustain it very long without a huge suspension of belief.

OTOH, I was thinking that The Real Slimshield might actually turn out to be Fury's doing. He allowed Coulson to keep "old" SHIELD running as a smoke screen for Hydra & Talbot/Senator Ward as he builds up a new power base, essentially making Coulson a fall guy. EJO is just the figurehead while Fury stays in hiding. It'd be a pretty douchey thing for him to do, but he's certainly capable.

It still seems a little early to be plotting Bobbi and Mack's deaths IMO. We still don't know who or what exactly "the real S.H.I.E.L.D." is. For all we know they could have just as much of a claim to the S.H.I.E.L.D. name as Coulson's group. I think we should at least hear what Director(?) Gonzales has to say before we make a final judgement.

Gonzales' SHIELD likely has actual legal authority, versus Coulson's team who basically claim they're SHIELD just because Fury told them so. :p

Given that Bobbi is Mockingbird, a superhero and Avengers member in the comics, I find it immensely unlikely that the show would treat her as a villain and dispose of her. She's not another Ward. She's someone who'll eventually end up being seen as one of the good guys.

There's also the fact that Adrienne Palicki is billed as one of the regular cast now. Although I guess that doesn't prove anything by itself, since Brett Dalton was too. But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Speaking of Brett Dalton, it just struck me that we didn't see any of Ward this week (unless it was quick and I missed it).

Is this the first ep he's been totally absent from?
