Ironic that with a story all about exploring uncharted territory, IDW seems to be showing a reluctance to do just that.

Doesn't mean it can't be good, of course. Some of the best Ongoing comics have been based on old episode, and the "lost in space" trope has been played multiple times in various Trek series with good results.

...and there are certainly some interesting things that could be done in the Delta Quadrant 100 years before Voyager gets there. Like, visiting Talax before it is seized by the Haakonian order; perhaps they are just commencing the colonization of Talax.
...or perhaps they'll visit the Sakari, decades before they are driven underground by the Borg.

...or maybe, just maybe, they'll find themselves somewhere in the >99.99% of the quadrant that Voyager hasn't already passed through, and encounter some species we've never seen before! Not holding my breath for that, though; I'm assuming they want to draw in Voyager fans with this arc.

Good issue this one! I feel like Uhura's consideration about that girl's name is fitting
I wonder what will cost the enterprise if they accept her help

Looks fun, although has Zahra turned blonde and white again? Sigh. If they want to feature the likeness of the blonde actress they really should just call her Rand. I'm looking forward to this Arc though.

Yeah. Maybe they're sisters or lovers.

You mean wives, right? "Lovers" means unmarried, thus no shared surname.

The two Zahras in the comic seem to be of different ethnicities, which suggests they're married, although there are plenty of biracial families in the world and would surely be more in the future. So we can't rule out siblings either.

It would be a cool fudge to feature them both. Or alternatively make her a low-end shape-shifter alien.

First peeks at Star Trek/Green Lantern: The Spectrum War, the next New Visions, and ST Ongoing's The Tholian Webs in which "One crew member makes the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the Enterprise" (Translation: Zahra's a goner): http://www.startrek.com/article/the-spectrum-war-more

Ha ha. Could be Kai but you're right, the comic has far too many recurring women in it at present (Uhura, Marcus, & Zahra). Best to cull one and retain the spirit of TOS. :p

I read the comic writer saying that Kai's Gaila's brother and we'd see more of him. I don't remember if they ever mentioned he's her brother in the comics though.
I wish they'd keep Gaila as a regular.

Anyway, since it's that episode reinvented then it could be anyone who sacrifices thenselves for the ship but then they find a way to save him/her.
Kirk or Spock would be predictable..so probably is one of the rest.

and so 'Kirk flirting with a different girl every week' begins

kidding aside, I liked this 3 part story. The part where that alien bought Spock, Uhura, Scotty and Zahra is priceless. I wish McCoy was there too! What a missed opportunity.

I wouldn't mind for Eurydice to make more appearances. One of the plot twists wasn't really a plot twist for me, the other one was and I liked it.

Btw, I knew that kids love Spock

the art is good! story-vise, like all the 2-3 parts issues it always feels like the end and resolution is too rushed and they get out of trouble too easily.

It was fun. I do agree that the resolution was too quick and tidy but at least a 3-part story gave them more of a chance to build up the story. I'm thinking 4-parts are ideal for a decent story with some character development and 2-parts for pure character development.

I see they're back to doing TV-episode-redux stories again next issue, with a remake of "The Tholian Web." I'm not encouraged by this; the TV episode has always been one of my favourites and I can't imagine they'll be able to improve upon it.
