On a related subject---any updated news on the possibility of "Best of" or themed sets for TNG?

Klingon/Worf collection, Borg collection, Romulan collection, Cardassian----etc.?

You stated a few months ago it was possible--any updated news or rumors?

    Dammit!

I'd still like to know the source for this "tidying up the sets" story....

DS9 on blu-ray is possible. This thread is inevitable.

No word yet, but don't be surprised if rumors start appearing in Q1 2015 after S7 and AGT are out.

Any idea on how sales were on the previous themed DVD sets from years ago, compared to the season sets?

I've bought TNG and DS9 on DVD, and never had any intention on buying TOS or VOY, but I bought all those themed sets full price, preordered in advance. I can't be the only person in the world who disliked VOY and ENT (and to a much lesser extent TOS), but who would gladly buy "Best of..". box sets from those shows?

I noticed a user on Treknews make the comment below:

There is no question that DS9 will be released on Blu Ray. The regular DVD box set releases were the best selling of all of the Star Trek series. The last figure I got was two years old, but at that point they had sold 11 million box sets. Much more than TNG.

Yes, but is this user someone who's 'in the know' or just someone expressing an opinion (hope)?

I bought TNG seasons 1-6 on Blu-ray and then gave them to my daughters. I can't afford to buy them again. But I would surely pick up any themed sets and/or best of compilations.

Besides the obvious "best of Picard" Tapestry, Inner Light, Starship Mine etc......

I could see a few "Adversary collections"
The Klingons --Worf's arc and other Klingon episodes

The Roumulans--solo episodes--Defector, Face of the Enemy, Next phase, and Unification

The "Cyborg collection"--which could include Borg and lore episodes--Datalore, Brothers, Q Who, Best of Both worlds, I, Borg and culminate with the Lore/Borg crossover Descents I and II.

I'd buy those sets in an instant.

One problem with a best of ENT might be what we saw in previous Collectives, where mediocre eps are included because they cross over to more popular series. Most of s4 is cross-over. OTOH s3 would be hard to narrow down due to its continuous story arc. As someone pointed out upthread, ENT is a lot cheaper at only four seasons...

At the same time a good chunk of S4 of ENT was multi-episode stories.

Yes. There is precedent for including two-parters (ENT s4 has four), but ENT s4 also had three 3-parters, and only five stand-alone eps.

Just wanted to mention how heavily the TNG season 6 extras were filled with DS9 material.
It was as if the powers that be at CBS were really trying to promote or build up interest for DS9 coming to Blu-ray.

I can see that they were ready and willing.

Unless they believe that's the only way they'll get DS9 special features out there...

What? That they were ready and willing to attempt to generate some buzz?

Yes. It's Hollywood. That's sort of what they do.

The team doing the rebuilding of TNG was ready and willing, and so the makers of the VAM were trying to promote DS9 to their bosses at CBS as well as the general public. But apparently it didn't work....

Good point. Which is probably why ENT season 4 set is the only non-TNG/DS9 set I have bought!

That makes sense, of course the guys behind the scenes would be all for another 3-4 year guaranteed paycheck, but their bosses are the ones that have to figure out the financials and justify the project to shareholders.

I didn't feel it was incongruously focussed on DS9 though. It felt perfectly natural; the development of the new series was a huge distraction during TNG's sixth year, which meant Jeri Taylor was more or less left to it with her young staff.

The main reason for that though is that they didn't have access to all of the original CGI project files. Had those been carefully filed away, like the filmed effects for TNG, then they may have been willing to re-render those scenes in HD.

At least the first few Seasons of DS9 still rely on filmed ships and we've already heard that at least half of the CGI project files for DS9 have been saved by one of the effects houses. I certainly hope DS9 isn't given any less than TNG.

Didn't you get the memo? DS9 isn't being done at all....SD now, SD tomorrow, and likely SD forever.

What they need to do is George Lucas up the space battle scenes of the Dominion War in the later seasons of DS9 simply by adding new new battle scenes in space and on ground.
