Would you be Starfleet or Maquis on Janeway's Journey?

On Voyager the rules are a bit different. You can either be Janeway's slave or walk home. Be sure to pack plenty of water and trail mix. It's a loooooooooooong hike.

I think you may have a hard time finding anyone in this forum who wouldn't want to be Janeway's slave.

It may be that Earth citizens' basic needs are met, but careers are limited. You might be George Jetson, with your feet on the desk, pushing buttons all day, but there's nothing to stimulate the imagination. Starfleet offers better living conditions, better food, and exciting work meeting new and interesting people. There has to be some reason for people to sign up.

You haven't seen Deep Space Nine.

The space station's Doctor's father arrives for a visit and it turns out that the man is a continuous failure who can't seem to find a profession he's any good at, and boasts/lies about what he has done/will do to seem not such a #### up.

The George W. Bush of Star Trek

The DeLanney Sisters worked in Stellar Cartography until Seven handed them pink slips.

I can just imagine the reasons that she gave them.

"Twins are irrelevant. This position does not require two people to fulfil the duties of one. As the new superintendent of Stellar Cartography, I will not be assimilated into the Delaney collective. Collect your belongings and vacate the room. Resistance is futile."

^ Seven taking her new role as an individual just a little too literally. :borg: ;)

I have seen that one, but it's not in my library. He's sort of an extreme case though. But with his record of unsuccess, it raises a question of how he managed to persuade someone to perform an outlawed procedure on Jules.

George didn't go to jail.

so?

Richard Bashir DID go to Jail for the crimes he had committed at the end of the Episode.

Where the similarities end.

Outlawed in Federation space, and maybe only only outlawed for humans, since Denobulans were fully and legally allowed to genetically modify themselves for hundreds of years before Phlox met Archer. No idea if they joined the Federation though.

Alien Doctors might accept money/trade. Federation citizens have access to untold resources since, everything is free, that they can exchange with aliens for services rendered.

Federation Doctors might get off on delving into forbidden science?

Maybe making superhumans from humans is a bit of a dick move, but making average humans from subprime specimens seems like fair play. Which means you don't have to be a mad scientist to enter this illegal field.

Tuvok, Archer and Picard all have potential degenerative mental illnesses that is going to see them completely senile in their twilight years, all of which could have been fixed by modifying their grandparents to make these diseases impossible.

They're both abject failures and common criminals. Which was my original point.

The guy was an ego driven moron. He needed to be good at something, something boastful. Truly advanced people shed such ego based needs and devote themselves in the Federation paradise to lying around on the beach all day.

Back to the OP.

Starfleet. First officer - just 'cause even I could do a better job than Chakotay. For a day or two. Then the stress would get to me, I'd have a breakdown and spend the next 7 years crying in my quarters.

Only one of many reasons I love B'Elanna! Not going to speculate about Tom. . .

Peyote makes you dream while you're awake about colourful weird shit.

It's all random.

Chakotay's machine probably actually uses a randomizer no different from a Poker program shuffling cards between hands. The program probably has a list of 200 animals and then randomly (like a ticking roulette wheel) picks an Animal Guide for the new player without a lot of respect towards their personality.

B'Elanna Torress will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered.
