So, DS9-R, now or later or never?

I say: Go for it! I did and don't regret it. You always regret the endless sci-fi space opera novel tie-in expansion literature you DON'T read, I say.

I'm currently about halfway through "Avatar." Since I'm using the Reading FlowChart, and the Gateways series is listed on there, I just thought about jumping into that after I wrap up "Avatar." That flowchart's been a great resource, by the way.

Section 31 comes before Gateways; either way, you don't need to read each miniseries, just read the DS9 entry. Avatar and the DS9 entries in both those series are collected in Twist Of Faith; just read that, then Mission: Gamma.

And thanks ;)

I actually technically own every one of the DS9-R individual books. I finally ordered the 3 books I had been missing, just waiting on 2 of them to finally show up in the mail. I figured I can read all the DS9-R, then the Voyager string theory trilogy( since its in the flow chart), the 4 Christie golden voyager books, A Time to,,, Series, then onto the main Post-Nemesis stuff beginning with TNG: Death in Winter.

When it comes to DS9, my philosophy is to read it all.

Anything CAN be skipped, but there are very very few instances where story hopping leads to anything other than missing out on a good story.

The impulse to get into some 'thing' by seeing what parts of that particular 'whole' can be flat out ignored or picked apart makes little sense to me anymore.

I could understand if you liked one series over another and just wanted to just focus on DS9 stories for example, but whatever, once you're caught up you'll be salivating for more and then you'll have to wait just like the rest of us, Might as well enjoy the ride as far as it will go.

Good starting choice. Avatar is sort of the ur-Trek Lit text, because everything else kind of springs from there. My advice is don't rush it, just read through them when you feel like moving on to the next one. There's really a lifetime of reading ahead of you, depending on how fast you move through them. I feel like I don't even read that much Trek Lit but when I look back at how much I've read I can't quite believe it.

It usually only takes me just under a week to blow through the average length trek novel. I started Avatar Book 1 on Monday, as of this morning I have two chapters to go. I used to be able to get through a whole book in a night or two, before I got married and now have a 15 month old to take care of. Now most of my reading is at night after my son falls asleep.

I was so close to start another thread about this but I figured it was beter to restar this one.

It was mentioned by ryan123450 and Enterpriserules in the beginning of this thread that the old DS9-R story was going to be revisited.
Is this official?
Does it mean that there will be novels taking place during the DS9-timeline gap or that the story threads from DS9-R will re-emerge in the post The Fall books?

Anyway this sounds like awsome news! :D
And remember, try to answer without spoiling any of it. I'm just finished with VOY: Protectors and I plan on going back reading Vanguard and DS9-R before starting up on the Typhon Pact books. =)

A plotline in the first The Fall book was left as a cliffhanger, but certainly seemed to indicate that some threads left hanging at the end of the DS9-R would be addressed.

Is that vague enough? :)

What Christopher said, but also some of that speculation has also come from the official announcement of the title of a particular DS9 book that is forthcoming, which some fans seem to think imply it will cover some of the storylines left dangling.

^And "some fans seem to think" is the same thing as "speculation," so that doesn't firm it up any. Fans are masters at jumping to conclusions based on the most tenuous of justifications.

And you can't read too much into what fans can infer from titles. I've heard some fan conjectures about what characters might be featured in my upcoming DTI novella The Collectors, and they're all absolutely wrong.

That is vagueness taken to perfection.
And that also killed the last of my doubt, DS9-relaunch, here I come! :D

Yeah, i was just saying another source of the speculation

So, is it kind of official now? ;)
I'm finished with Vanguard and have begun reading DS9-R now.
I finished the first mission gamma book yesterday.
