Which is the BEST episode of Voyager??

"Real Life"

I forgot to add Real Life. Thanks for reminding me.

Heh, no prob. I've picked it several times in various favorite VOY episode threads. I seem to be the only one for at least several years on the board who really loves it that much over all the others.

What I like about it is that it's different, way different from other Star Trek episodes. It works as a criticism of the trope that all main characters are protected from harm, and it uses the holodeck to do something both interesting and unique that profoundly affects a main character.

It has some definite similarities to "The Inner Light," in that a main character develops in important ways while living with a family that exists in a different world apart from the crew, but I think "Real Life" is even superior to that episode.

Mine are:
Prototype
Meld
Before and After
Life signs
Scorpion
Living Witness
Drone
Timeless
Gravity
Raven
Dark Frontier
One
Mortal Coil
Year of Hell
Tinker Tenor Doctor Spy
Endgame

The Best of Voyager

Death Wish

Scorpion 1-2

Year of Hell 1-2

Latent Image

Mortal Coil

Nothing Human

Bride of Chaotica

Dark Frontier 1-2

The Void

I don't "do" single best episodes, but off the top of my head I loved...

Future's End
Timeless
Scorpion
Macrocosm
Dark Frontier
Year of Hell
Endgame (yes, Endgame)

And probably loads more I'm forgetting right now.

I love that it forces the Doctor to deal with humanity and he comes away from it with a better understanding. Plus it's so heartbreaking:( It's been the only episode where I actually cried.

I know I've cried during "Real Life", TNG's "The Offspring", and TOS's "This Side of Paradise". Probably a few others too, though not many more.

"Cold Fire" is my favorite.

Spooky and exciting with Kes as the main character.

I'll give it five points out of five.

Not a top contender but I'm probably the only one who enjoyed "Haunting on Deck Twelve." (Not its first running because it felt like a distraction from matters than needed to be touched on or concluded)

I've decided to 'bite the bullet' and mention an episode that is probably going to get me a ton of eye-rolls in response:
Elogium

I almost put it on my previous list as either my pick for the best episode of Season 1 (which it was produced for) or Season 2 (when it aired), but decided to instead go with Eye of the Needle and Alliances, respectively. It's a really good episode for both Ethan Phillips and Jennifer Lien, and really shows the depth of the relationship between Neelix and Kes; it's also a really nice example of how Trek successfully does metaphor.

I must admit that it's one episode with Kes as the main character that I don't care so much about.

Kes is funny to watch when she eats beetles and freaks out. But there are so many stupid things about the Ocampa brought up in this episode which ruins it for me.

However, Jennifer Lien's acting is superb.

Real Life was a great idea for an episode but I felt the ending was a bit contrived. Like, they could have made a more profound point by not jumping to the most extreme scenario.

The quirks of Ocampa biology that Elogium established are, for me, one of the reasons the episode works on a purely Sci-Fi level, and, as Before and After later shows, really aren't as improbably strange as people make them out to be.

How is the death of a child due to a brain injury "the most extreme scenario"?
