Oops, sorry. I missed the word "new" in that discussion.

My personal view is she needs some room to breathe in the comics first. I don't want a movie to overly influence the comic's direction, so give some more time for all the established elements to be there first. Then absolutely give her a movie (or a TV show or a cartoon, really anything that gives her a larger audience).

Hey, where's Scarlett Johansson's "Black Widow" movie? She, along with the rest of the cast of the "Iron Man" films, are the exceptions to the apparent rule that Marvel Universe leads must be droners.

I know I'd pay money to see Black Widow with Johansson in the lead, and I'm sure not coughing up twelve bucks to watch another Thor snoozefest. I don't think that's mainly because the character is the whitest of the Marvel whitebreads, but that probably doesn't help.

Tony Stark is a Caucasian male just as much as Black Panther is an African male, just as much as Kato is an Asian male and Apache Chief is a Native American male.

If you're okay with Tony Stark being another race and/or gender, you have to be all right with any of the others being one, too. Including Caucasian males.

Nothing about Stark and his abilities or background requires him to be Caucasian. The others ethic origins are tied to their identities and abilities. The Panther is an African King who's powers are tied to his culture. Apache Chief, well the name alone tells you. Kato, again his name tells you. Had you said the Falcon instead of Black Panther, you might have a point.

No, only to -- yet again -- sad little white guys suffering from massive amounts of white guilt. "Anti-white racism" is very much a real thing, no matter how much you wish to deny it. (Again, you should really look into self-delusion. It's not a healthy way to live.)

When sites like this one can not only function but get away with television spots without so much as a peep about racism, yet it's "white" counterpart gets lambasted left and right, that is racism. Ditto for every black/latino/asian/etc. comedian who gets away making jokes about "whitey," and then people like you who are totally okay with condemning any white character being played by a white actor.

If anything's pathetic, it's that.

No, he wasn't. He was a rich guy who made weapons. He was a charming guy who had a way with the ladies. Being"unscrupulous" was added later. As was being an alcoholic and a bit of a dick.

I'm sure many of the superheroes where an ethic background that is European is a major part of the character's power set should be played by a white guy ( or gal). Most of those tend to highlight the ethnic angle: Shamrock, Banshee, Shining Knight and just about every white member of the Global Guardians.

So, is there any way for people on this BBS to just enjoy an entertaining movie without trying to fix it?

And by "fix it," I mean "fix it 'til it's broke."

Trying to overlay an agenda on everything, even for something as good-intentioned as "diversity," just sucks all the life out of it and makes it not fun anymore. Not to mention causing endless arguments in online communities, causing some participants to inflict upon us their practicing for the next Debate Club meeting.

People have flaws. Some people's flaws include not being Other-Than-White. It's not their fault. I'm sure a lot of white people would be something else if they had a choice. Hell, just look at the money spent in tanning salons. Or Vanilla Ice.

In the meantime, I'd just like to enjoy a movie that has some humor and heart.
