True, after Klingon actors in non-Klingon roles we now get the Eternal Ensign as a successful man and it isn't even in some averted alternate future.

Why would he be playing Harry Kim so many years before he was born?

I thought it was obvious the rank references were just jokes.

^^ Was wondering that myself. We're talking at least 3 generations removed between the two characters, possibly 4.

Seeing GW as a Klingon will be very interesting and cool. Smooth or ridged as some one pointed out will also be interesting!

He could have been an ancestral namesake of the 24th century HK?

That would imply that Harry Kim had some Klingon blood in his family line. Or that a Kliingon would use a human name (their mortal enemies that this point in time). Unless the Klingon family is really into Shakespear and somehow got Harry mixed up with Henry.

Me too. I'm a little confused about two things, though:

    1. I read they wanted a budget of $650k, but the kickstarter is only targeting $100k. They said: "This first Kickstarter will be for the sound stage and set construction." So, I don't really understand how this is going to work. If stage two fails to meet its kickstarter budget, do the people from phase one get refunded? I'm going to assume not, but what will the rewards for the second round be? Like, if I'm already owed a copy of the film, what's the incentive to kickstart round two?

    2. Will the full film be in the same 'style' as the Prelude to Axanar? Like, is the entire kickstarted film going to be talking heads and graphics, or are they actually shooting, like, scenes with actors interacting and doing stuff and shouting orders on bridges with exploding consoles and such?

I don't know what they have planned from the production/funding point, but the full film won't be in the style of Prelude. It'll be a traditional dramatic presentation.

    1. Kickstarter only works if the target is met. If not the donors get their money back. However with such a large goal it is not likely to be gotten within a month, so the target is set lower so that at least some money is gathered for use. Not all the money is needed at the start as bills don't all come at the beginning.

As of now, with three days left before the end of this first film Kickstarter, they are $6,000 short of the second stretch of $375,000. With $375,000 they should be able to pay for all the preproduction items on the list including the studio rent for maybe two years and set construction. Meaning they will probably make the first goal, plus other people have said they are willing to pay into it, but can't until the end of the month/next month (also they expect some more promotion at Dragon-con at Labor Day Weekend).

Thus the remaining $275,000 will start to be fulfilled before the second Kickstarter (whenever that happens, probably around January when think filming starts). For more incentive they are taking about thinks like models and books I suppose. (Note that they have a recent donor that paid $10,000)

    2. The 90 or so minute long film being Kickstarted is suppose to be a more traditional movie with a bridge set and stuff. That is one of the reasons they need to rent a studio for a year or two...so they can build sets to shoot in. Especially the bridge of USS Ares.

I think they have a pretty good shot at funding this with the second drive. Time will tell, but I'm optimistic.

Considering the story will also have Captain April and new USS Enterprise in it in some way, there have been "suggestions" about using George Kirk. It is doubtful they would be able to get Chris Hemsworth though. He is rather busy these days playing Thor. The few avalible novel sources on both April and Kirk suggest that Commander Kirk was his first officer, or at least his chief security officer when the ship was launched. (It seemingly was also George's suggestion that got the ship named "Enterprise"). Commander would be a promotion over his rank of Lt. Commander on USS Kelvin, though he was First Officer on that ship under Rabau

Speaking of which they might be trying to get Faran Tahir to do Captain Richard Robau again. I believe they mentioned his character during Prelude as one of Admiral Ramirez senior captains. Though I wonder if it was his plan that "wasn't worth spit" according to Captain Samuel Travis.

Also, Prelude was budgeted at $10,000 and they ended up getting $100,000. Does that money roll over into Axanar? If not, where does it go?

Great, another Bay Area bwana giving self righteous, sanctimonious, feminazi, condescending lectures to everyone. Even worse, using circular logic to prove their point.

That would really be interesting. I'd be also curious if they'll keep filling all the other speaking parts with known genre tv/film faces as well.

The extra rolled over to Axanar to help with makeup costs and more special effects. Those are costly. That way they can have more Klingons and the like ready in advance.
