Ziyal's Surgery Update

So... My mostly-low-grade fever is still kicking around. So tiring, and tiresome. I had a couple doctors' appointments this week. The conclusions so far are that this is not a continuation of the urinary infection; that, although the unhealed portion of the incision is clearly not infected, the mere fact that it is still an open wound is enough to cause a fever; and that the unlikely possibility of a blood clot (yikes!) should be ruled out. So next step is an ultrasound of the relevant leg. Sigh. The one good piece is that my temp's been lower today than in over a week.

Now that I didn't know--that the mere existence of a wound can raise your temperature even without an infection. I wonder if it's the body's attempt at a pre-emptive strike against anything that could get in?
Paging Dr. House...

Seriously, I'm glad to see that you have been recovering well despite some fleeting setbacks, Ziyal.

I can imagine how tiring it is to have such a long recovery time. Do they know how long it will take for the incision to fully heal?

At this point, your guess is as good as anyone's, RJ...

By now I've had a couple intermittent urinary symptoms again, so it looks like I probably still do have the UTI. Plus a wound specialist from the visiting nurses association came to see me today, and she's convinced the wound IS infected. So I have another appointment with the plastic surgeon tomorrow... they may need to open part of the incision back up.

I am so effing tired of this shit!!!!! So very, very tired. Oh, and did I mention that I'm pissed? At everyone and everything.

Really sorry about all that :(.
Just try to stay positive, it'll pass eventually. Focus on the good things (if there are any? :/)
Sending "prayers and good vibes", as everyone else says ;)

In that case, I guess "later today." Tell the doctor I said so. :)

I don't blame you. I can imagine how it must wear you down. :(

Thanks, guys. Your encouragement helps. And, yes, Jaytrek, there are a few good things to try to focus on... the nurse friend who's been helping me so much, a few tiny improvements in the functioning of my plumbing, an occasional scrumptious meal (FFH is an excellent cook, plus he's good at picking up sushi ;))...

Well...if you're in a particularly sadistic mood tonight you can delight in me outing my stupidity in front of everyone...

What is FFH? I have been trying to figure that one out for ages, because I keep thinking it's these guys. I like the song, though. It's a tough song, and might have tough lyrics (not all of it would apply to you, though)...but I offer it to you as a reminder that people are thinking about you and praying for the best for you. You're not alone. :)

But for angry...here's a funny animation someone did to make fun of nuBsG. I hope this'll cheer you up for the moment.

Sorry, I spelled it out a couple times, but obviously not enough... he's my Friend and Former Husband. :) Because referring to him just as my former husband is too negative and past tense for the reality of the relationship.

I've been wondering, too. It's good to know.

Sorry things are taking so long to come together. I am sending you positive thoughts.

So the plastic surgeon is admitting me tomorrow. Get me started on IV antibiotics, do a CT scan, and give them a chance to do a urine culture and resume treating the UTI. On Thursday she will reopen part of my incision, see exactly what's going on, clean the wound, etc. She reserved the OR for only an hour and a half, so apparently the surgery really will be as short and sweet as she described. Hopefully, I will be "home" sometime on Friday.

Intellectually, I know that this is exactly what I need to finally get well. But emotionally... yikes! I really don't want to go back in the hospital! And I hate that I have to have anesthesia again.

Well, I hope you don't mind me saying that your strength throughout this whole terrible business has been greatly inspirational. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I wish you the best of luck with this latest hurdle. :bolian: Here's to you being fully back on your feet soon! :)

^^ I agree. I can only imagine how trying all this must be.

Good luck, Ziyal. I hope everything goes smoothly and they get a handle on this thing.

We will be pulling for you and sending good vibes your way. :techman:

Re anesthesia...I don't think they give you the "bite the bullet" or the "enough booze to pass out" options anymore, sorry. :(
