Youtube-disappointing

I used to love Youtube. You could check out a clip from a show or watch Hitler review a movie. Now everything is censored. I tried to look up a clip from Super Troopers and the only clips are some crappy footage that a guy filmed from a tv. Netflix doesn't stream the movie either.

There is still good stuff to be found on YouTube (not even counting my page ;)). I actually found The Great Santa Claus Switch, a Muppet Special that I previously saw only once almost forty years ago and which has been tied up in legal limbo ever since. Maybe someday I'll be able to buy it on DVD, but it was great to see it again in any format.

I've been using youtube lately to watch panels at comic con and dragoncon of various shows each year, like looking back and watching all the cool panels with the actors, watched every panel that exists for farscape, sg-1, atlantis, sgu, buffy/angel, castle, and smallville so far.... finding it to be a lot of fun and a lot of late nights, whole lot more to watch

Seems to me that they're having lots of issues with bandwidth. Stuff doesn't load... stuff stops loading completely 10 percent in, stuff needs to buffer for higher resolutions. I know I have the bandwidth to stream anything they got... so what gives?

And yeah the copyright stuff is a pain. Sometimes I just want to watch a funny 15 second clip from a show quickly in a common place...

I love youtube.

It's amazing the stuff you get to see that'll dust off old brain cells.

I mean, even locally...for example I'm from Winnipeg, Canada and there's a channel by a guy called RetroWinnipeg and he has all kinds of old commercials and news clips and bumpers from the early 80s....just great.
I've also been watching Fractured Fairy Tales and Aesop & Son from old Rocky & Bullwinkle shows.

I rarely use Youtube as much more than a video hosting service. My clients make movies, I put it up, embed to their sites. Similarly, the content that I personally consume is embedded into websites that I read regularly or the various feeds to which I subscribe.

The one thing they need is something that tells you when a supposed 'video' is just a collection of pics put to bad music.

Hitler reviews movies?

It was a clip from a movie about Hitler. The subtitles would be changed to review all sorts of movies or to comment on some unacceptable subject. Hitler would say something like,"Well, at least X doesn't happen." Then the generals would look nervous, because X had happened. They then tell Hitler about it and he goes on a crazy rant about it. It was hilarious. The footage was copy righted, so they pulled it all.

I guess they brought those back. I watched Disaster Movie-unfortunately.

Edit: I guess they didn't bring them all back though. Most are gone.

I've been watching the old Bob Clampett Beany and Cecil cartoons from the early 1960s. Funny stuff! A lot of the jokes were way over kids’ heads.

Then you're missing 90% of the fun! I rarely watch TV anymore since I discovered YouTube.

Or a bunch of young jerks doing a lot of stupid shit to bad music.

Why? Were they afraid Hitler's estate would sue?

It was just giant movie production companies doing it for everything they own. It was a drama, not actual WW2 footage. There is a computer program that can match movie clip info with copy righted movies. They don't need to look up a title or anything.

The movie is Downfall (Der Untergang in Germany).

I actually bought the DVD based off all those youtube videos, but haven't had the chance to watch it yet.

Yeah, those clips were generating a lot of publicity for them-- but it's their Copyright, so they have the right to do as they please.

Try living in Germany.. we have a media agency here that represents most media companies and last year they had a falling out with Youtube over royalties to be paid by YT. They couldn't agree over the percentage and now many music videos or any videos containing music or film parts are blocked in Germany.

Oddly enough several smaller sites still have them up which raises the suspicion that the agency just targeted YT because of its popularity and ties with Google (and their deep pockets).

But who gets screwed? The viewer aka the customer :scream:

That explains why one of my video's isn't viewable in Germany anymore. I had just made a slideshow with some filmmusic.. :borg:

I like youtube. I don't use it to find clips of things though. I watch vlogs - stuff from Alex Day, Hank & John Green, Tom Milsom, Charlie McDonnell, Tom Mclean, etc. There's some entertaining stuff to be found.
