Your top 5 franchises?

I guess The Prisoner is technically a franchise because of the god-awful remake mini-series. The original is one of my all-time favorite series, but I'd really like to forget the remake even happened. So, I hesitate to even mention it here! ;) :ouch:

I love the original version of The Prisoner. It's an iconic piece of the 1960s and not really matched by anything else. But I thought that the remake was fine. It's not trying to be the original series. Nothing outside of the 1960s ever could be. It's very much a modern take on the general concept but I think that's OK. Probably helped that it was so short though.

I stand corrected. Have you tried it? Is it any good?

Star Trek always my #1. Not sure where to go after that, as like six other are hard to choose between.

Star Wars, Buffy/Angel, Mass Effect, Babylon 5.

If you asked me before I saw Mandalorian last week I would have thought harder about Star Wars as #2, cause they hadn’t done anything great since 1980.

If you include non-SF, the Breaking Bad-verse is top 3 easy.

Does Office/Parks and Rec count as a franchise? They originally wanted to do crossovers. Also, is Stewart/Colbert a franchise?

Edit: Watching Mandalorian ep 5 right after finishing SHIELD is weird.

IMdb said they did webisodes, but this is ll I could find on Youtube.,

No I haven't seen the motion comics.

If there's even more then one of them?

If you look up Lost girl comic on google, all it wants to talk about is Lost Girls.

A porn comic by Alan Moore about Dorothy from Oz, Alice from Wonderland and Wendy from NeverNeverland exploring female identity and sensuality for 240 pages.

You don't like Clone Wars and Rebels? I think your views on modern Star Wars might go up if you watched them. Plus I do like Force Awakens, Revenge of the Sith, Rogue One and even Solo somewhat so I think Star Wars has a better won/loss record than it gets credit for since the classic days.

7 wins
TFA
ROS
RO
SOLO
Clone Wars
Rebels
The Mandolorian

4 losses
Phantom Menace
Attack of the Clones
The Last Jedi
Rise of Skywalker

7-4 isn't perfect but it could be worst. Granted I haven't seen Resistance yet so maybe that hurts their record.

They reimagined classic episodes to take place in modern day, as well as created original stories.

A comic book series came out in the 80s, as well as more recently.

Also...

Dangerman.

The conspiracy is that The Prisoner is a sequel to Dangerman but TPTB deny this statement strongly.

Well, this might change time to time, but for a while now its probably been:

Star Trek - (What's to explain here, it's in another golden age, its third now? Reinventing itself is key)
Dune - (Longtime favorite. It opens as an epic and finishes as a commentary on ecology, Cults of personality and religion)
Blade Runner - (For a long time just a movie and some comics, but then a sequel that was almost as good and some animated shorts.)
The Expanse - (I started with the books and immediately put the TV series at the top of my sci-fi list, to the consternation of many, but of course it's already one of the greats.)
Twilight Zone - (Recently rewatching these, and it struck me, there have been 4 versions and a movie. The first season of the new series was below avg, but season 2 was much better). )

Foundation could join the list in 2021. I also like some newer franchises with less of a footprint like Black Mirror, Devs, Westworld (new/old).

Matrix could rejoin the list at some point after Movie#4.

The recent Star Wars movies are okay, but nothing that elevates the franchise. I actually think Last Jedi is best of the new ones.

I haven’t seen the Clone Wars. Something about the animation style really turned me off and really not interested in that time period.

The animation style does take a moment to get use to but to me if you try them don't worry if you didn't like the prequels. IMO Clone Wars saved the prequels. Made characters interesting like their version of Anakan actually interesting. Plus the action stuff is just top notch.

Star Trek: I mean: I'm here right? I'm here too much.

Star Wars: I loved the movies, I loved the EU. The love has died out, but remembered love is almost as good, isn't it? Maybe Star Wars will love ME again. What a fool believes..

Doctor Who: I was rotating the dial on the family TV as a child and saw this weird blue box with windows passing through what appeared to be a glowing tube. Then Tom Baker's odd face appeared for no reason. The music was good. I was hooked. Oddly it took the bad writing of the Capaldi years, one of my favorite doctor actors, to cause me to no longer give a damn. Sometimes a franchise needs to die. At least for awhile.

James Bond

Donald Duck Universe: (Yes it's a thing)

I would also add Eve Online, The Expanse, and Final Fantasy, but because each has only expanded a little out of its core medium, they can't make it onto my list yet. Dune was ruined by Herbert's son and World's Worst Writer Kevin J Anderson.

Here are the recent comics, which were released by Titan in 2018 and 2019.

A porn comic by Alan Moore about Dorothy from Oz, Alice from Wonderland and Wendy from NeverNeverland exploring female identity and sensuality for 240 pages.

When I searched for "Lost Girl interactive motion comic," I didn't have any trouble finding a fandom wiki about them but it seemed a bit vague as to how the interactive part worked, where to find them, or even if they're still available anywhere. They had a Wayback link for them but that took me to a page asking me to update my Adobe Flash player and I just can't be bothered. Although I'm kinda bummed that it sounds like Kenzi isn't in any of them. The comics are all prequels to the TV show focusing on Bo, Dyson, Hale, & Trick. https://lostgirl.fandom.com/wiki/Lost_Girl:_The_Interactive_Motion_Comic

BTW, something I'm wondering about H2O-- After they get wet, how do they change back from mermaid form? Does it just wear off or is there a particular trigger? Like, on Ranma 1/2, getting wet triggers the transformation but then hot water reverses it.

I don't personally think you can list something as being a "favorite" if you've soured on it.

I don't know about that. Just because I don't enjoy the Chibnall era of Doctor Who doesn't make me like the previous eras any less.

Granted, there can be times when a franchise will drop down a few spots because it failed to stick the landing. I used to consider Stargate SG-1 to be an absolute top tier show until around Season 7, when I realized that they didn't really have any idea where they were going with this. I still enjoyed the later seasons but it took some of the sheen off of the early seasons because I realized that they weren't part of some epic arc. It was all just a bunch of stuff that happened. But it's entertaining, so there's that.

I think they just turned back when they dried off.

Multiple hair driers.

Some of the mermaids had elemental powers.

Or at least a normal mermaid had power over all the elements, but the 3 land girls from the first series who were accidentally turned into mermaids could each only control a single element.

So "some" of them had heat rays that shoot out of their hands, that they could use to dry off faster.

In no particular order and in all media:
Star Trek
Star Wars
Batman
Superman
James Bond.

Honourable mentions:
Doctor Who
Indiana Jones
Battlestar Galactica (old & new though I prefer the former)
Buck Rogers
Flash Gordon
All other DC & Marvel

Right so I've decided to give this some thought, and I'm defining a franchise as something that extends into multiple media that I have enjoyed. (So for instance, The Prisoner is brilliant, but I have never liked anything beyond the tv show itself - therefore I can't claim to like the franchise, even if I love the show.)

Doctor Who
Anderson/Century 21
James Bond
Star Wars
Star Trek

Does Spartacus count as a franchise? Does changing its title every season make it four different shows?
