You might call me crazy but I think this entire series is going to be built around the mystery of what happened to Scotty's missing finger. Sure on the surface it might seem a leap to asume a show set 10 years in the past from the TOS adventure's on a different ship with no TOS character in that might not even be in the same canon would focus on this but you haven't thought this through. At some point the show is going to use the TOS character's on some level. We just know it will happen.
My theory is that the klingon stuff is just a ruse. They will be in the first episode and that is it. what I predict is they starfleet ships we be invaded by klingons and big battle will happen but starfleet ends up winning. At some point after the battle a severed finger will be found. The finger belongs to no crewmen. they do a dna test and ithey find out it belongs to Scotty. They find out he is a engineer serving on a cargo ship and when they get in touch they find out he has all his fingers. we then spend the rest of the series getting into adventure's while also constantly trying to figure out the mystery of the finger.
