Reading these other posts, I feel so young...I'm a teenager and the first time I ever saw Star Trek was five months ago, so it's not hard to remember The Before Time, but it already seems so long ago. I have since seen all the TOS episodes at least once, TAS, the original cast movies, and am working on the first season of TNG. The top of my Christmas list is a Season 1 DVD of TOS :)

Before Star Trek wasn't long ago, and I was more of a fantasy person. I loved (and still do) Harry Potter and other books like it that had to do with wizards and magic. At some point, about a year ago, I transitioned to being a sci-fi person, and somewhere along the way watched Star Trek.

Before watching ST, though, I knew almost nothing about it. All I knew was:

    1. It has to do with space.
    2. The ship is the Enterprise.
    3. The Captain is Kirk.
    4. The Spock guy is an alien, right? Wait, he is from Star Trek, right?

^ Welcome to the club. Trek is a lot of fun.

Just out of curiosity, what was your introduction to Trek?

Well, last October I became obsessed with astronomy, and sci-fi in general. So it was only a matter of time before I saw Star Trek. My mom influenced me too, because she used to watch reruns when she was a kid, and was obsessed with it then, and she had mentioned it sometimes over the years. She had a crush on Kirk. ;)

So I decided to see what it was about and watched the first episode I could find online (which, coincidentally, was the last episode of the series, Turnabout Intruder.) I liked it enough that I kept going, and educated myself about Trek even more through Wikipedia. So I guess I just decided by myself to watch it. It was a sudden thing. Within a month I had finished the first season and owned a pair of Vulcan ears. :vulcan:

Out of curiosity, would JJ's film have gotten you this interested in TOS?

Hmm...I thought Star Trek 2009 was pretty good, but I saw it after I saw TOS, so I thought some characters were OOC. Other than that it was great.

But if I had seen it before I saw TOS, I actually think I would have liked TOS a bit less because of the quality of the special effects and the amount of action. I would have expected more the first time I saw it. It's sad, but those kinds of things can decide how much viewers enjoy a movie or TV show rather than the elements that matter in TOS, such as cerebralism and a good storyline pertinent to world issues.

I started watching Star Trek when I was four. So no, for me there was no life before Star Trek. :D

Fair enough. And it's understandable since ST09 isn't a good representation of what TOS was as a whole. Comparing TOS and ST09 is like comparing a plate of good pasta with an undercooked Big Mac.

Are you still "done with Star Trek"? Or was that last week? It's hard to tell.

No, not an undercooked Big Mac.

More like a bowl of Spaghetti-O's straight from the can. Sure, all the obvious ingredients are there, but the sauce is overly sweet, the pasta is pretty uninspired, and it's not quite clear whether or not those meatballs are actually meat, but hey, the kids fucking love it, so it must be the absolute best pasta dish ever created, right?

Life before Star Trek for a five year included watching Godzilla movies, Dialing for Dollars, the Officer Don Show, Fireball XL-5, and sadly enough, pro-wrestling. LOL

    Hey, Spaghetti-Os are really good.

Which is not something I can say about Trek XI. Ba-BOOM! I'm here all week! Thank you.

Hey, I like the occasional bowl of Chef Boyardi ravioli as much as anyone, but don't hand me a bowl of the store brand equivalent and tell me Mario Batali whipped it up

Chef Boyardee has become a pale imitation of itself. When I was a kid, those little supermarket cans used to contain traditional gourmet pasta made by actual Italian grandmothers.
