Our bill averages about $280 per month, and every month we use less and less electricity, and still our bill stays high because they raise the fees and the kilowatt rates.

I think my rates either fell this quarter, or are supposed to fall next quarter (I forget which). It will be a pleasant change! :)

I hope ours falls over the Spring and Summer, otherwise it's going to be unsustainable.

Do you need to use A/C where you live? If not, your bill will fall anway, won't it? If you do need A/C then I guess a solution if rates don't fall is to hang around in public places with aircon for as long as possible during the day! Hey, gotta think laterally! :D

Some goodies for my birthday on sunday. Will visit the parents with my boyfriend. Not so good for the diet but very good for the soul...

Overpriced textbooks... Social Psychology.

All you need to know about Social Psychology:

- Individuals wish they could behave like Nietzsche's superman but feel guilty about that.
- Crowds will tend towards behaving like a bolshevik mob, if left to their own devices for long enough.
- Social Psychologists (esp. from the sociology wing of the subject) love translating the above two facts into complicated symbology.

Everything else is a derivative of the above triad, to a greater or lesser extent. :D ;)

I've only had one class so far, but I've paged through the textbook and it's already looking far more interesting than I thought it would be. Not a field I would want to go into myself, but still quite interesting.

Now my other class, the one on the psychology of cyberspace ... I got that book yesterday. I'm loving the chapter and section titles. For example:

"Flaming and Fighting: The Psychology of Aggression on the Net"
"In the Eye of the Beholder: When Is a Flame a Flame?"
"Expert-ism"
"Liking and Loving on the Net: The Psychology of Interpersonal Attraction"
"The Origins of Role Play"
"Role Play Danger Areas"
"Virtual Passion"
"Psychological Aspects of Internet Pornography"
"The Internet as a Time Sink"
"Naming the Affliction: Addiction? Overuse? Self-Indulgence?"

Star Trek Online, as well as the latest MMPB. Got those, and a logitech remote (present for my mom, who's a little technologically impaired) in the mail from Amazon yesterday.

Also dropped big money yesterday, as I put in the order for my kitchen cabinets. redoing the whole thing; cabinets, granite counter tops, new appliances, lights, tile floors, whole works. That's gonna hurt when the bill comes in... :)

Battlefield: Bad Company and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the XBOX 360.

I also saw a copy of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection but didn't have the cash on hand. Looks badass.

A bunch of (caramel) hot chocolate from Starbucks, Satellite Coffee, and my church's coffee shop. A train ticket to get around town. That's about it.

I got myself an apartment in Koshigaya. Okay I don't own it, but I paid money and I submit that it counts for the purposes of this thread. Also, it is awesome.

I pay quarterly rather than monthly though I believe you can choose monthly billing instead. I've just always paid quarterly, by direct debit, so have continued doing so. It's no more expensive than monthly direct debit billing from my supplier so I've never bothered to ask them to change to the monthly way of doing things.

One thing to keep an eye on with quarterly billing is exploiting the two tier pricing scheme. You know how you pay X pence per unit for the first Y units, and then pay Z<X pence per unit for the remainder.

Well if a provider changes their prices mid quarter, they'll often reset the timer, so you're paying at the higher X ppu again -- twice in the same quarter.

It's a stealthy way of getting more money out of you, but it's not something you can easily factor into price comparison. Monthly billing tends to use a much smaller Y, or does away with the two tier thing altogether, which may leave you better off, especially when they pull this stunt.

Replaced the A/C compressor and all associated parts on the van yesterday. Quoted price: $1,450; my price: $50. The extended warranty I bought with the car just paid for itself.

^*jealous!*

I paid $600 for a brake job that started out with $300 quote and it kept growing averytime they looked under the car. Big long lecture about mudding to the offspring ensued.

The X-Files movie (the first one): $10 on Blu-Ray
The Fountain: $10 on Blu-Ray
Sherlock Holmes: more than $10 on Blu-Ray

I also bought a new gym membership.

Just purchased several games for the 360 (COD 4, Force Unleashed, and ME 2). I also bought the entire series of TNG from overstock.com. I also bought a Sig Sauer P232 a few weeks ago.
