Your latest purchases

Lemme check, I had never heard the name before to be honest.

It's called Nikkai.
Costed next to nothing, works like a charm. :techman:

I've managed to AVOID several large purchases over the last few days. In an effort to reward myself for being scrupulously frugal & delaying gratification, you now have the pleasure of knowing what I didn't purchase lately:

Firstly, I was idly thinking about getting a new camera and liked the look & price of the Sony Cybershot W300, but managed to resist temptation. There's nothing wrong with my current camera really, apart the fact it's old and not as snazzy as newer ones.

Then to take my mind of that, I browsed the gold medal winners of the IWC 2009 and drew up a shortlist of wines I wanted to try. After quickly crossing off some of the grand crus as just too extravagant, I nonetheless came up with a list of 8, and tried to track down some of them over the last couple of days or so.

Waitrose NV Brut Champagne - haven't had a chance to go to Waitrose yet, so haven't bought it. Will do so this week I think. But I already have 6 bottles of champagne in the cellar, so it would be a bit of an indulgence to add more, though it's always handy to have a few bottles of a good & well-priced NV around.

Then I went looking for two M&S stocked wines: a Puligny-Montrachet 1er cru Les Chalumeaux 2007 and a Chateauneuf-du-Pape Domaine des Senechaux 2006. I went to 2 different M&S stores yesterday to track them down. They're only available online, in cases of 6. While it's tempting to make them my house white & house red, I do actually just want to try them first!

So I looked online for the Camel Valley Bacchus 2007 - an English white, again would be happy to buy a bottle just to see what it's like (I've tasted a few English wines recently and they're actually pretty nice and certainly worth the experience), but everywhere I've looked online is either only selling cases or has silly delivery charges.

And so the story went with the others on my list... I was so disappointed at my lack of success that I've opened my last bottle of 2004 Loimer Kaferberg as compensation (and very nice it is too).

Cool. :) Have fun with it!

My Philips was pretty cheap as well. Normal price was €85, I got it for €65.

I'm being frugal as well. I saved about $60 by buying higher quality cat food. That meant I could afford my B5 DVDs. I also went $25 under budget this week with groceries, and I bought lots of fruits and veggies and healthy food.

I did splurge by going to see the ST IX movie two Sundays in a row. And I got a yummy pizza both times. Saved half of it for supper later. :D

Really, the only thing I've bought that I didn't buget for this month is the $100 I spent buying a dozen shirts. :bolian:

Went back to the warehouse sale today - scored two hockey sticks worth $125 each for $23 each, and got the kids t-shirts for $5 each.
Sadly, the price of everything has gone up. When I played hockey (back in the 60s and early 70s) you could buy sticks new for around $5 and pucks were three for a dollar. I remember shelling out $20 for a top of the line stick for my own personal use and I still have it to this day, even though I haven't pushed a puck in well over thirty years.

I'm now typing on my brand new 17 inch MacBook Pro. I've officially moved over to the dark side. :)

/is jealous of kimc's 17 inches.

That came out wrong, didn't it ?

A bit.

I'm being frugal as well.

I'm writing it off as a business expense since it will be used mainly for my side jobs. My old pc is really slowing down and if worst case scenario I get laid off and have to do more side jobs I'll need a faster machine. As it is the cost will help offset what I make on the side this year.

It turned out to be a big weekend for new stuff. I'm adopting a rescue dog! My current dog Marco and I met her last night and the two got along very well. She's a pom mix who was rescued from a puppy mill. She's so dang cute! I'm taking Friday off so we're going to pick her up that morning which will give us a four-day weekend to get her settled.

How does that work? I'd have thought it would be more expensive?

Very wise! :)

I bought a truffle salame, Grana Padano, green and black olives.

And now they're all gone.

The magic of entropy...

So much for frugality...

I was window-shopping in my lunch break and ended up buying a Sony W220. Cheaper than the 300, but nicely-featured for my modest needs, a lot better than my current camera, and I got a very nice deal through price-matching (it really helps having an internet-phone to look up deals while negotiating!). Just waiting for the battery to charge up before I can start playing with the new camera! :)

I guesstimated the number of 3 oz cans of Fancy Feast would be about $100 for the month. Then I went to Pet Co to buy them in the plats of 48. They only sold them in indivdual cans (!???!!), so I price checked the 12 oz cans of Wellness cat food. I priced the cans for a month's worth and it came to $40. And I had a 10% cupon for them.

Worked for me. I just shook my head as I walked out of the store.

Works for the cat too, I guess. :D

Congratulations on performing the mathematical gymnastics. Very limber of you.

I succumbed. I am now the owner of a Canon Digital Rebel T1i. I really don't like spending money, so this was tough for me. However, a number of people around me have died recently, reinforcing that life is short and I might as well just giver. With my luck, I'll live to 110 and have no money. ;)

But a lot of nice photos, right? :)

Holdfast, your av is freaking me out!:lol:

Thank/blame JonathonWally for the great art.
