Holy Hannah, that's shopping on a budget?!? Can I join your family? In my family (5 people), you're splurging if each person spends over $75.

tsq might be particularly interested in this. ;) I purchased a new hat, which arrived in the mail the other day. It's a brown fedora in rabbit fur felt (not wool).

The hat ships open crown (first picture below), so I had to "bash" it to add the center dent and side pinches. This was done by hand, with a bit of steam to help add the downward sweep to the front of the brim. I decided to go for a shape that's a mixture of Indiana Jones and my own personal style. :)

$14 on milk?
Please tell me you bought about 3 gallons, if so why so much?
I hope that wasn't $14 for one gallon of milk.

Keep in mind that $600 is what I save over the course of a year, to use as Christmas money. All of my other income goes right into bills, medications, rent and so on. I'll skip getting that "Get Smart" DVD so that I can funnel that $20 into the Christmas account. If I need shampoo, I'll get the 48 cent clearance shampoo and put the 50 cents into the Christmas account.

You see, Christmas is my favorite time of the year, and I always do quite well in giving gifts. The problem this year is that my income was cut short because of the loss of my job, which made it much harder. Years ago, when I ran my computer business and it was doing well, I believe I spent $1800 on Christmas presents for my family, but that was a little less than a decade ago. I have never reached that amount of money since then. Last year we were in much worse shape, and I spent $120 on the whole family. The year before that was the worst. I spent $30 on the whole family, as my income was completely consumed by medical bills, utilities and rent.

So this is a much better year for me, even after losing my job.
As for the budget part, yep. If you were to get retail on that, it would be much more than $610.

^ I'm happy for you, man. Christmas is awesome, and giving gifts is the best part. :)

Very nice Fedora, Tim M!

I didn't purchase this, but my roommate got it for me and I'm really happy about it. It's a block mounted poster for the film Le Déclin de l'empire américain. It's the same artwork as on this dvd cover (maybe NSFW).
