I got my package the DeepDiscount (from the 20% off sale) today, here's what I got:
- Weeds - Season 3 (Blu-ray)
- After Sex (DVD)
- Blade - The Complete Series (DVD)
- Wonderfalls - The Complete Series (DVD)
- Good Luck Chuck (Blu-ray)
- Serendipity (DVD)

I also got a Marx Brothers Collection for my folks and BSG: Razor for a friend of mine.

From yesterday -

Had my eyes checked and paid for new lenses. Man, I wish my prescription would just stabilise. I'm getting too old for this shit. Two years since my last test and one eye is half a dioptre worse and the other changed by a quarter of a dioptre. Ah well, as long as they stabilise by the time I need varifocals in 15 years or so, I should be fine - I'll get them lasered then, so I'll just need reading glasses instead.

Still, thank goodness for the high refractive index lenses, even if they do cost an absolute fortune.

While waiting for them to be ground & fitted, I paid for a late lunch at Jamie Oliver's new Italian place in town. From the review I sent a friend:

... charmless maitresse d' who seemed a out of her depth in a very busy and slightly too loud restaurant with tourists a-plenty. Inoffensive but slightly "chain-restaurant" decor.

The wine list is trendy rather than good - lots of light, bland fruity numbers with zero depth but vague "organic" credentials. In fact, one might say the wine list mimics most of the restaurant's clientele... ;)

Waiter service reasonably good & friendly and price wasn't at all the gouging I expected. Food - I tried the tagliatelle genovese. Pasta acceptably al dente, as were the green beans, and it was a decent portion... but just a little "flat" - the herbs lacked zing and the while the pecorino cheese added a pleasant sharpness, the dish overall felt unremarkable.

Overall: decent place to grab a bite to eat in the middle of the day, but not a destination restaurant despite the name above the door. I would rate it as 7.5mg olanzapine out of a maximum of 20.

A tent.

I'm taking a road trip next week which will involve some camping, mostly on the way back. I'm not a camping person, but paying $25 a night for 2 people for a few stops made a lot more sense. I do like the stuff, though, and I'm getting the feeling that I could stay at posh hotels for the same amount I'll pay for all the cute little stuff that catches my eye.

:alienblush:

For all of you Kevin Smith fans, I have something for you to drool over. I ordered this back in Jan when Pere mentioned it and I completely forgot about it until last week when it shipped.

Including the ALL-NEW story "Where's the Beef?!?" showing Dante and Randal's journey from Quick Stop to Mooby's.

But wait, there's more!

Signed by the man himself (though getting him to sign anything isn't hard) with exclusive art!

This book is limited to 500 copies. The one I have 411/500.

Now I DEMAND jealousy!

... and the ability to take less blurry photos.

Stay at the posh hotels, get the cute little stuff gratis.

... oooh, free fluffy dressing gown & slippers.... :D

I just got a Hot Toys Leon Kennedy figure from Resident Evil. My god this thing is beautiful. It's easily one of the highlights of my collection.

By cute little stuff I mean cute lawn chairs, a new air mattress, maybe a little camping stove or lantern...

Yep, I get the hots for camping equipment and... office supplies. I'm a strange, strange person.

And I think one night at your idea of a posh hotel would fund my entire trip!!!

I still need a cowboy hat. What's the point of being in Calgary during Stampede without a cowboy hat???

Picked up two new shirts and a pair of shorts for my birthday.

Picked up replacement bulbs for the brake light in the roof of my car and then spent about 30 minutes installing them. Many thanks to the folks at the Grand Am Owner's Club site for the heads up on how to do this. It's actually intelligently designed (unlike Honda, Toyota, and Ford), but not intuitive to disassemble.

You get your jollies from camping equipment & office supplies? That must be quite the dungeon you're building up! :D

I had dinner with friends yesterday, so bought my share of that... wine was interesting, though the pre-dinner G&Ts affected my palate a bit. Had an acceptable-tasting (but rather pongy) US shiraz/syrah from Hermosa (or Marmosa or something like that) Vineyard and then a much better Spy Valley Pinot Noir from New Zealand. Those Kiwis certainly know what they're doing with Pinot - very tasty! The dessert Monbazillac was a bit disappointing though. Mind you, my palate was shot to pieces by then anyway...
