I'm picturing how to put all these together to create the freakiest Halloween costume of all time. Frankly, I'm terrified just thinking about it. ;)

It's an Acer TimelineX 4820TG

Cool.
Thanks. :)

Yours has a two graphics cards I think, letting it switch between them depending on whether you're on mains power or battery. That's why you can get such good battery life from it.
I love that. I am installing a few of my favourite games on it, but I won't be playing all the time, so the fact that it actually switches the main graphics card off when it's not needed is fantastic. If you don't like it, or don't want it to do so, you can simpy change the setting.

I tend to prefer desktop-replacement laptops like yours too. I've got half an eye on this one but I might wait a little longer for it to come down in price a bit. Maybe after Christmas.
That's a beast. 17.3" and 3.9Kg is well beyond what I wanted from my laptop. In that case I'm guessing you wouldn't take it out of the house at all, correct?
I love the specs, but I still like my laptops to be portable.

Sounds great.

Out of curiosity, what games are you running on it and how high up can you set the detail settings and still have them behave? Alternatively, if the choice of game reveals some deep dark psychological burden, roughly how old are they and how well they run would be enough. ;)

Just trying to ballpark just how powerful a machine I need to budget for.

Yep, house only (and maybe a plane carry-on once or twice a year at most). In fact, it probably won't move more than a few feet for 90% of its lifetime. I just prefer laptops because I can use them on the coffee table in the living room, and they're sleeker than a desktop.

I don't really need a laptop anywhere else; my phone suffices for mobile internet, etc.

You must post pix - it sounds like great fun! Surely you'll have to try the outfit out ahead of time!

Oh dear, I knew some day my Diablo obsession would be the end of me. :shifty:

I'll be installing Mass Effect tomorrow morning, then I can tell you how fast and smoothly it runs and the details level the laptop can cope with. I'll send you a PM with my impressions. :)

I've been looking for one of these forever! But, they simply didn't exist anywhere. Then, just now, I did a google search for something else entirely (well, TrekkieMonster-related, but not a puppet), and saw a link to the official "Avenue Q" website where they're now selling them. WOO HOO! I am WAY too excited about this.

Of course, it's going to take 2 - 4 weeks for it to arrive, but I don't care. I'm a 47 year old man and I'm excited about a puppet. :alienblush:

At least it's not a blow-up one. ;) That puppet looks awesome. You'll have to post pics when you receive it.

I just ordered A Stitch in Time by Andrew Robinson from Amazon since several people on this board have said they enjoyed it. So much for my self-imposed ban on buying more Trek books!

That's awesome! You can use it to make another avatar. Don't feel bad. I have a talking Bloo doll on my Amazon list, and I might end up having to buy it for myself.

I bought a Liebherr fridge/freezer combo, and a separate Liebherr freezer as well. :-)

Oh, and a Canon digital video recorder for my father. :)

Three more books by George R R Martin.
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

(Had the first one and am waiting for the fifth in paperback)
