Your latest purchases, cont.

Not a purchase but I just had to pay a fine of $31.80 for 'Failure to Vote'. I simply forgot to vote on the day of the election.

Don't take this the wrong way, but...be proud that you were charged that fine.

I wish they'd do that here in the US. Voting is an absolute obligation, and there is literally NO excuse for not doing it. Not a single one. The last election should be proof enough of that. :sigh:

I have often been told, most often by Americans, how wrong mandatory voting is. Some have even suggested that it means Australians are not free.

I see voting as a civil duty similar to jury service.

Whoever told you that - THEY are the ones who are wrong. And I say that AS an American.

Freedom increases with voter turnout. There's no other explanation for the results of our last election.

I see voting as a civil duty similar to jury service.

Me too.

A grocery run (comes in handy, shopping at my own store) :

- Gallon of milk
- Two bottles of tonic water
- One bottle of Beefeater gin
- One bottle of Salvador margarita

Too... many... things. Christmas decorations (gonna have a proper-sized tree this year, if you consider 4' proper; considering it's going to be on a table, it will be taller). Christmas candy and chocolate. Toys for the cat. A couple of calendars (Thomas Kinkade and Gary Patterson's newest mini cat calendar). Fast food at A&W. Two boxes of Timbits.

I might have bought a couple of Thomas Kinkade jigsaw puzzles, but I've got so many now (nearly 3 dozen) that I couldn't remember if I already have the ones at the mall kiosk.

The rock & gem people weren't there this year, which means no new addition to my rock collection, or carved animals. :(

But on a positive note, I've still got some penguins coming in the mail...

Three books arrived from Book Depository for me today

Conquistadors of the Sky: A History of Aviation in Latin America
Cosmos Latinos: An Anthology of Science Fiction from Latin America and Spain
The Case of the Missing Marquess: An Enola Holmes Mystery

I don't think I have ever read any Latin American sci-fi before.
Enola Holmes is meant to be Sherlock's little sister. It is a children's book (sometimes I enjoy an easy read).
