A 2TB external hard drive for my set-top media player (for less than $100!). I find this is my preferred method of watching old TV series now- rip the individual episodes to files, instead of trying to figure out which DVD it's on (or remember where I left off on the DVDs).
The GoFlexTV media box I'm using now is pretty cool. It was also less than $100, and plays H264 MKV files which are tiny but pretty good quality, and will also play .ISO rips of actual DVDs.
I had tried using my PS3 as a media server before but could never get satisfactory results, this little GoFlex box is much better in my opinion.
