Okay, this may be the trizillionth time you are asked this very question, but I'll ask it anyway: Who is you favorite of the secondary characters from TOS?

Mine's Chekov. I dunno, I just like Walter Koenig and his acting style. I think he has a great comedic timing but can also handle more serious stuff (I happen to be one of the only two guys on this planet who like his interaction with Irina in "The Way To Eden").

NOTE: Just for completeness' sake I also include Chapel and Rand (as the latter pretty much seemed to be a secondary cast member in the first season.)

Scotty.

Perhaps an obvious choice; but the most interesting and well-rounded of the secondary cast. Always played with charm by James Doohan, a drunken miracle worker with a lot of vigour.

Rand. I liked her interactions with Kirk and Charlie in Charlie X. She had the potential to be a very good character. I'm still disappointed she got written out of The Galileo Seven. Although I guess it saved her from the infamous "It's getting hot" line.

If there had been that shadowy 4th season, Doohan certainly might have gotten a better credit....Doohan noted several times that Scotty's role got bigger and bigger as the series went on. Certainly Scott was going to be a big part of the Trek II series - there seem to several story outlines where Scotty is heavily involved in ways OTHER than as an engineer.

Scotty, without a doubt. Always loved the character and Doohan's performances. And as a kid it always seemed to me that it was Scotty that pulled the ship out of trouble a lot of the time.

Mallory is missing from your poll!

From the choices available I'd choose Scotty. He was an engineer without peer and when he sat in the big chair he didn't take any crap from anyone.

Close call between Scotty and Chekov, but the miracle worker takes it. I tend to think that Sulu would be higher on the list if he'd been in more of season 2. (my favorite portion of TOS)

I never considered Scotty a secondary character.....

Here, here! By secondary character, I thought you were referring to the rarely used/seen folks, like Mallory, Kyle, etc..

But I voted for Scotty anyway.
Yeah, actually I was struggling with that "secondary character" description, too. Of course I could have also named it "those guys beside Kirk, Spock and McCoy" if you would have liked it more. :p

Maybe "supporting cast"? "Secondary" makes it sound like 3rd ensign from the left that appeared in a couple eps.

Chekov.

It's a shame that Koenig didn't got more time to show his talent in Trek.

Scotty for me--he was head and shoulders above all the rest, almost a fourth member of the triumviarate; he had three episode that centered on him.

That's true, and it does almost make the poll unfair. I've always felt Scotty occupied a middle ground between background chatter like Uhura and Sulu, and the top-billed heroes like Kirk, Spock and McCoy.
