Your Favorite One-Liner From Any TOS Character

I'll catch heat for this (not just because it's a two-liner), but I still laugh at this...

"Mr. Spock, the women on your planet are logical. It is the only planet in the galaxy that can make that claim."

Kirk, from Elaan of Troyius

Kirk, from Elaan of Troyius

Yes, whenever I watch that episode and hear Kirk say that I kind of cringe and wonder how many female Trek fans didn't appreciate that line.

I can't help it. I have to post again....

Spock's Brain:

McCoy asks Kirk if noticed the delight aspects of the Sigma Draconis women.

Kirk : "Yes, I certainly did notice those delightful aspects."

Uhura's response to Sulu calling her a "fair maiden" in The Naked Time:

"Sorry, neither."

So many... Two that stick are McCoy's:

"You mean I have to die to discuss your insights on death?"

"I know engineers. They love to change things."

Kirk to newly unemployed Lawgiver : "And you can get rid of those robes. If I were you, I'd start looking for another job."

Hard to choose just one, so here are a few:

Kirk explaining Spock's ears to a 1930's policeman: "He caught his head in a mechanical rice picker." (City On The Edge Of Forever")

Spock to Matt Decker: "Vulcans never bluff." ("The Doomsday Machine")

Kirk to Spock, explaining Trick-or-Treat: "You'd be a natural." ("Catspaw")

Khan: "Captain, although your abilities intrigue me, you are quite honestly inferior. Mentally, physically."

That sentence is all one requires to understand Khan--not his past, or politics (or defense of both), but that one line. Of course, it also explains his (ultimately) destructive ego in "Space Seed" & TWOK.

The set-up from McCoy: "I'm a doctor, not a bricklayer."

Best line ever, from Kirk: "You're a healer, there's a patient. That's an order."

Gene Coon was a genius. Genius, I tell you!

One of my favorites is from "A Taste Of Armageddon":

Spock: "I do not approve, I understand."

I feel it's really important, since it's something that people tend to overlook a lot in conversations. :)

A one liner that I never noticed that I thought was AWESOME was in Trouble With Tribbles:

Chekov: I was making a little joke.
Spock: Extremely little, Ensign.

I loved that! To me, that scene meant that they believed in Chekov's potential, but were also having fun with his inexperience by teasing him a bit. Spock gets it, even if he acts like he doesn't.

I also love this exchange:

"You mean, all by yourself with a disruptor, you can destroy this planet!"
(grinning) "That's exactly what I mean."
"I didn't realize you were so FORMIDABLE."
"You seem to think I'm joking. Where are the communicators?"

And my vote for all time BEST Trek one-liner IIIIIIIS:

"Matt! We're stronger WITH you than WITHOUT you!!!!"

Spock replying "35" in a deadpan, insulting manner when Philana asks him how old he thinks she is in Plato's Stepchildren. Its classic 1960s ageism in a time when that age was considered "old" and young "hip" people weren't supposed to trust anyone over 30. Its one of the more dated moments in the show's run.

I also loved Spock's tense delivery of "Mister Scott...MISTER SCOTT." during the final countdown in Doomsday Machine.

"After a time, you may find that having is not so pleasing a thing, after all, as wanting. It is not logical, but it is often true."
