Your annual vacation/holidays

Yep, but the UK is one of those horrible Liberal Socialist countries the right in the US is warning people about. Yep and you get shared Parental leave and/or shared parental pay (it also applies to adoptions) 50 weeks and 37 weeks pay (though only in the first year).

For SSP it's £92.05 per week for up to 28weeks though you have to have 4 consecutive days off sick (including non-working days) to qualify for it. Though you may also get Company Sick Pay (CSP) from your employer how much and for how long often depends on length of service.
Of course, in the UK you also get child benefit of £20.70 per week for your first child and £13.70 per week for each subsequent child.

So as we both have this week off, we've decided to head down the country for a few days.

Had to look up Boracay. Looks nice, not a part of the world I’ll be able to visit anytime soon.

We've been in Kilkenny since Saturday, we were going to head back to Dublin today, but because of how nice the weather is, we decided to go back tomorrow.

Last year I took my first vacation in 7 years. I had hoped to go again to a few places I liked...2018 however has been torture so I'll probably hide under some coats in my basement.

Had to look up doubleheaders, and to my disappointment, it has nothing to do with trains.

Ernie Banks always used to say "Let's play two!" Now I know why...doubleheaders are a lot of fun. :)

And while I'm not a Cubs fan, I freaking loved Wrigley Field. I liked it a LOT better than the stadium where the White Sox play (which, although nice, is basically just surrounded by parking lots, and has none of the history, ambience, or neighborhood of Wrigley). Although at the Sox games I saw, they had PEROGIES  ...

I did enjoy Chicago for reasons other than baseball, of course. LOVED the deep dish pizza  and had a good time hanging out at the Billy Goat Tavern.

Unfortunately the weather was none too great...that's why we had those doubleheaders in the first place - two of the games I saw got postponed to the next day, because of rain. Made for a rather surreal experience when I went up in the Sears Tower and looked out the observation deck - all I could see was a white void (because of the fog). For a minute there I thought I was in the Matrix.

Can anyone offer any advice on what clothes to wear in Hawaii in mid-July? :) I'm mostly a T-shirt and jeans guy, and I'm not much of a beach person. I'll spend most of the time sightseeing, shopping, and dining.

Hawaii is something very far away from me. Next vacation is also very far away from me. I won't get to travel a lot and I will have to pick my destinations very carefully.

T-shirt and jeans should be fine. I spent 10 years of my life there.

When we all went down to Mexico for my brother's wedding, we stayed at a resort (Riviera Maya). I'm just a big-city vacationer and have little experience with beaches - I didn't have any swim gear or anything like that - so I wore my street clothes when we went to the beach one time. My sister-in-law cracked up at that. :alienblush:

I don't know if you ever were to an Italian beach. The biggest guys wear the tiniest speedos. No bathing shorts. Too much stuff.... Europeans amuse themselves when they see Americans jumping into the sea fully dressed.......:)
