You can have one more season of your favorite Trek series, BUT...

I'm guessing the above is in response to this. ;)

And yeah. Over time, it would've become a very different type of show. '70s-era TOS would've aged horribly. Not just the fashion (that's obvious), but also Gene Roddenberry in a more "liberated" environment. I've seen his rejected pilots from then, the sex jokes and the objectification of women would've gone off the charts. They could've made Spock an analogue for Affirmative Action. "Look at us! We have our Vulcan Officer!" And then watch how they'd react if there was a second Vulcan. And remember the episode with the all-female Security Team in TAS? They would've done something cringey with that in live-action aimed at adults. I'm thinking shades of The Enforcer.

Anyway. If people want seven seasons of TOS: 1963-1970. Most of the last season in this would've been shot in 1969. That would've been a good run.

How involved would Roddenberry have been in these imaginary1970s seasons? Would Bob Justman as producer make the same choices? Or would Freiberger return?

Fred Freiberger bails after the third season. He hated what he was thrown into that much. Bob Justman doesn't come back until another line producer leaves. Gene Roddenberry has to beg him to come back because he didn't enjoy his job during the third season.

Gene Roddenberry is more involved with the fourth season (and on) but not as much as he was during the first two seasons. He's more hands-off, but not out-to-lunch. Then he works in his magic touch as it strikes him or whenever anyone has a question.

Gene doesn't have time to do as many Conventions now and he doesn't speak at Universities. No universities means he doesn't refine the talking points for His Vision. So Humanity stays "half-savage" as the Metrons would say.

Leonard Nimoy leaves after one too many behind-the-scenes fights. Even possibly in the middle of a season. Which throws a HUGE monkey wrench into the works! They replace Spock with another Vulcan and it's considered the shark-jumping moment of the series where things irreversably changed for the worse.

William Shatner stays until the bitter end. Still has to pay alimony after the divorce! But, with TOS continuing, Shatner has an easier time with life in general during the '70s.

No question, I need a TOS season 4, even with Freiberger, since a team that knew and loved Trek made most episodes work, despite FF and some of the scripts he saddled them with...and as many problems as s3 had, it's still my third favorite Trek season, overall.

Pick any random SNW/Disc season to prune.

Does swapping seasons also affect the episode count depending on which show the season stems from?
E.g. if somebody traded a TNG season to get an extra DSC season, would that DSC season balloon into 26 episodes?

I don't think so, hence TAS Season 2 being such a good trade-off for basically anything.

I'd actually trade S02 of TAS and PRO S01 for another two DSC seasons.

I didn’t like PIC S02, but I’d still rather have it than TAS S02. It’s surely the most disposable Trek season of them all? It’s about two hours of utter fluff in total.

Get rid of DIS S2 for ENT S5.

As much as I personally dislike DIS S1, it did try to do new things, and did bring Star Trek back to tv. Plus without S1, I’m not compelled to check out the Orville. Its terribleness is actually kind of necessary in that regard. I'm not sacrificing S3 and S4, as Discovery did get better. That does leave S2, which was all over the place and had the least memorable series antagonist in Leland. It also won’t effect SNW, so that’s fine.

As for favourite series getting an extra season. that technically should be DS9 S8. But DS9 felt complete at the end there and had an amazing finale. Why mess that up? Yes, there are all kinds of special guest stars that could appear from TOS, TNG and even VOY to make up for the absence of Sisko, Odo, Garak, Miles and Worf, but it was time for it to end. Similarly, with TNG and VOY, it was time for them to end.

That leaves me to pick ENT S5. Every Trek show has peaked in quality in the fifth season, so it would be interesting to see what that would look like with ENT.

An interesting question would be... how many iterations could we get? I mean, I couldn't make it through DIS, and while I watched most of PIC, I'm not overly motivated to go through it again, it's kind of "That was worth watching, moving on". So by sacrificing those seven seasons, I could get...
- A post-Dominion war season of DS9
- An 8th VOY season, set after the ship gets home.
- A couple more ENT seasons. With Shran onboard, I expect I'll want at least two.
- That third PRO season.
- And a couple more in reserve, for later Trek preservations.
- Also, can I erase NEM to get a movie set on DS9?

-PIC S1 +Pic S1 (re-do with better writing)
Ditto S2, S3

-PRO +DS9 s8
-DSC s3 +ENT s5
-DSC s4 +ENT s6

Can I trade Trek V for another movie of II, III, or VI quality?

I don't even have to think about this one. Aside from "All Good Things," there is nothing in Season 7 of TNG I would miss, and I would happily trade it for a Season 4 for TOS.

Really, is season 7 that disliked?
What about....
- Liaisons
- Phantasms
- The Pegasus
- Lower Decks
- Emergence
But I do admit there might be more stinkers than really good ones.
Also, 'All Good Things...' is among the best of TNG.

Well, theoretically, since the show would need a finale after 6 seasons instead of 7, it could be argued that "Descent" should be dumped and AGT the S6 and series finale.

If TNG had ended after season 6 there could be many, many questions, why oh why the series ended after only 6 seasons.
Then comes the discussion "what could have been in season 7".
However, we know because there is season 7, yaay.
Now we have "what if there were 8 seasons discussions". =)
