You can have one more season of your favorite Trek series, BUT...

...You have to sacrifice a season of another Trek show to get it. (The cosmic balance must maintained!) Which show do you get one more year of, and which season of which show do you eliminate and why?

The Ground Rules: For the purposes of this discussion, we'll only allow Trek shows that have completed or will shortly be completing their runs: TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, DSC, PIC, and PRO. Since we don't know how many seasons SNW or LDS are running yet, it's tough to say they deserve one more season.

You can eliminate any season of a show that you'd like. If (to pick two completely random examples) you want to get rid of the 2nd season of TOS or the 6th season of DS9, go for it. But all other seasons of the show remain completely the same. The extra season has to go at the end of the existing run. And you can't eliminate a season of a show just to make your own version of that season instead (That's what the Fan Fic Forum is for). You have to pick two different shows: One to expand, and one to shorten.

What shows do you choose and why?

 

I'll sacrifice ENT Season 2 to get live-action TOS Season 4. Except for a handful of episodes, ENT Season 2 was really, really bland. Everything I ever heard about it was true. On the flip side, I'd like to see TOS break 100 episodes.

I won't really know if I'll think Discovery or Prodigy should've gone longer until I'm there. It depends on how well things are wrapped up at the end of their final seasons. I think Picard touched upon everything it intended to. I'll always wonder about what Chabon's version of Picard would've been like if it had continued, but it wasn't meant to be.

 

Reduce TNG to 6, by eliminating either S1 (preferable) or S7 (acceptable)
Expand DS9 to 8, adding a post-Dominion war season.

 

Easy choice for me: Get that 5th season of Enterprise and lose any season of Picard (and if allowed to go again, I'd lose the other two seasons of Picard for another of Enterprise, and the 8th season of DS9).

 

Not a PIC fan, I assume.

 

I'd gladly trade the peak of the Dominion War arc of DS9 for another season of ENT. Or another season of TOS, TNG, or VOY.

 

I would be thrilled to erase season 2 of Enterprise from existence, and I don't even want anything in trade for it! Just getting rid of it would be reward enough. (The back half of Discovery season 2 is the lowest low of the franchise for me, but the strong first half pulls the overall score up quite a bit. Enterprise S2 was just pointless nothingness all the way through. I'm willing to sacrifice the isolated high points of "Dead Stop" and "Regneration")

But if I get more, I feel like I'd want one more season of either DS9 or PIC. It's hard to choose. DS9 I'd want a season 8, and PIC I'd want a season 1.5 or 2.5 - there's no topping season 3 for ending that series, but I would enjoy a longer journey there.

 

~ You assume correctly. I didn't finish watching S2, and only watched 2 or 3 eps of S3. It just wasn't for me which is why I'd be happy to lose it entirely in favour of more of pretty much anything else, but especially Enterprise which was just getting consistently interesting.

~ But that would mean no "Precious Cargo" ( ). Are you absolutely sure?

 

I wasn't thinking about adding seasons in-between during my last post, only after, but I'd take a PIC Season 1.5 and 2.5. If I only had to choose one for Picard, I'd go with S1.5. They skipped over things that were summed up, but I think we should've seen.

 

This is easy. At oeast the first part is.

I trade S2 of TAS (only 6 episodes of 20 minutes). Now, what do I get? That is tougher. Let me work backwards.

I don't need/want any more TOS, TAS & the movies cover that. Ditto with TNG & Picard. And VOY with PIC/PRO. And I just sacrificed TAS S2, no no way I go for more, and the movies give me more anyway.

So that leaves DS9, ENT, and PIC. The PIC ending was a home run, so I let it lie. Though if PIC4 = Legacy I might go in that direction. But I think Legacy should be a new show.

So ENT & DS9. The wrap from DS9 was also good. Rene has passed. I let it lie.

Which means ENT S5. S4 was excellent and the TATV ending remains the biggest blot on the franchise. Fix it. Plus there is a lot more uncharted water in the time frame.

 

Also, I love Carbon Creek from ENT S2. I am not losing that.

Sac: TAS S2
Get: ENT S5

 

Though getting that 8th DS9 season is my priority, a S5 of ENT would have been nice, with TATV modified into an unexceptional but mostly harmless non finale episode.

Of course, with Shran in the main cast, we'd probably be left wanting more.

 

I want ENT S5 and trade in PIC S2. Now my favourite shows are DS9, TNG and TOS, but they all kinda ran out of steam towards the end already, and I doubt adding even more at that stage would do much good. ENT on the other hand had just found itself in the last season, it was fresher than ever at that point and I'd love to see more going from there.

PIC S2 is an easy pick for "sacrifice", it's so bad I'd happily erase it from existence even without getting anything in return.

 

For me, the sacrifice is easy: PICARD season 2. Worst season in the franchise. (And yes, I'm including TAS in that assessment.)

The addition... I'm torn between a DS9 season 8 or an ENT season 5. I'll grudgingly give it to ENT, because it deserved to at least hit 100 episodes.


Now, if I were to do another round... I'd sacrifice DISCO season 2 to get a DS9 season 8. DISCO season 2 was the next worst season of the franchise... it's only saving grace was Pike.

 

Without DSC S02, we wouldn’t have SNW.

Do eliminations have repercussions?

 

Damn... good question.

We did see the Enterprise at the very end of DISCO season 1, so maybe that can be the loophole where we still get SNW.

Trek series have none of those, right?

 

This feels easy to me. I would love another season of Enterprise and lose Voyager Season 7. Voyager could have gotten home in Season 6, considering Pathfinder happened early in the season. Enterprise was just starting to get really good, finally.

 

I would sacrifice season 3 of TNG, that season brought back all of the tropes which hobbled it for me, to get a 3rd season of TAS.

 

And VOY S6 didn't really rock my socks either. Only thing I really remember from it are a starship Grand Prix, a gut-kick of an anti-death penalty episode, and the episode that (character) assassinated Harry. We could dispense with that, I think.
