Interesting question. Does anyone know how many doctors a current (or historical ) contemporary cruiser carries?

Supposedly, Roddenberry pitched a M'Benga spinoff. He may have been created with that in mind.

Whoever did the research for that article is either an idiot, or has no respect for other people's favorite TV shows. 'And the term "Kikki-nee-klart" was changed to just "Klee-fah."' is one of the dumbest things I've read about Amok Time. Especially since we all know the term is "Kah-Li-Fee!"

I know more spinoff ideas were on the table, but I've never read anything about a M'Benga spinoff.

And I see the ever-present Mr. Cushman is the source of all the information in the linked article. I don't have his season two book, so it's possible he's uncovered some kind of documentation, but I'd advise taking it all with a grain of salt. (Plenty of other details in the link, either the author's work or Cushman's, are definitely incorrect).

Well, at least Dr. M'Benga appears to have been created by Roddenberry, which means he could proposed such an unlikely spin-off. However, spin-offs from shows with middling ratings are kinda doomed to failure.

It could indeed be BS. However, I think the actor had a lot of presence and could have carried his own show. Whether or not anyone would give him a show, well, that obviously never happened.

    Patrick Nagel?? (guessing)

Every male wannabe-yuppie college student in the 80s had a Nagel print on the wall in his dorm room. They all ended up working for Enron and Goldman Sachs and Bernie Madoff.

That's Nagel. He died way too young.

D'Amato died in his first appearance. Or maybe did you mean that you wanted him to live to be in more episodes? It's my Asperger syndrome acting up. I can't always parse things according to a writer's original intent.

And every hair salon from the 80s had a ripoff painted on their windows, with some of them still there.

    If you're addressing me, YES!

I definitely think D'Amato should've been in more episodes, (if he hadn't bit the bullet), or at least last the whole episode he was in!

    lol...this reminds me:

I noticed someone in Star Trek Online has their ship named the U.S.S. Helen Noel.

More than once at conventions, I heard DeForest Kelley joke that M'Benga would show up when it was time for his contract negotiations.
