Yea, finally back, and rewatching Babylon 5

^Jan, I'm surprised that you even need to watch the DVDs anymore. Surely by this point you know the entire show verbatim. ;)
I wish! I just have some great reference tools. And while I'll allow that I know the story and history pretty well, there are *plenty* of folks who know the ships, tech, novels and other thing far better than I.

Jan is the show.
Ha! No, that's the *other* JMS! :p

The Gathering I will give a C, it just not as good as the other Babylon 5 stuff, but a lot better then the first half of season 5!

Which reminds me, I still have not seen any of the b5 movies except thirdspace and the gathering.

If you haven't seen River of Souls, you haven't really missed anything even though Ian McShane and Martin Sheen are guest stars!

A Call to Arms and especially In the Beginning are worth watching, although the latter contains spoilers for newbies. The former is more like a crossover pilot to Crusade.

In The Beginning would be awesome to watch now. As I've said, I like to use it to start my re-runs of the show (though I wouldn't recommend it to first time viewers).

Interesting that you're starting over. Yeah, the first half of season 5 can be a slog, but honestly there are some episodes in the back half that are just as good as anything from seasons 3 and 4. Welcome back!

Should I tell you about the time I shared a Hot Tub with her at the Shore Leave convention in Maryland?

I heartily recommend Pat Tallman's new book "Pleasure Thresholds," which is a collection of photos she took on the set, and recollections of her career slanted towards her time on B5.

Available at cafe Press, and at www.b5pat.com

(note I am not an agent or salesperson, just big ol' Pat fan!)

Only if you're very cruel. :(

Best I got was a gleeful exclaimation when I showed up at Chiller wearing my "Team Tallman" T-shirt (and a gleeful exclaimation from Pat was enough to make me all happy inside!)

I forgot where I was at, so I ended up watching Mind War again. I forgot to add that the subplot of Catherine Sakai heads to Sigma 957 is great, as Sakai is played by a wonderful and good looking actress, and the G'kar speak is classic.

The War Prayer: This was ok, not great, but it really does nothing for me, I had for one reason or another a hard time to keep track of the episode.

And the Sky full of Stars - I loved this episode on first watch, and nowadays I am bit more marginal, as i know (spoilers) that the whole Sinclair "hole in your mind" bit gets dropped due to cast changes. That and I don't mind Sinclair as commander. Anyways, its a fun idea, and one of the bright spots of Season 1

IIRC the "hole in your mind" bit was (spoilers) fully played out by the end of 'Chrysalis'. I don't think it was ever intended to continue much past season one, even before it was decided that O'Hare would leave the show.

As an aside - The B5 cast had one of their frequent get-together dinners this week. Pat Tallman posted this pic on Facebook:

I agree. Once we found out what the 'hole' was, there wasn't really anywhere else to go. Delenn continued her exploration of the Humans that were supposed to be so important but once Sinclair moved to Minbar, he was assigned others to watch him (as shown in "To Dream in the City of Sorrows" written by Kathryn Drennan, the then-Mrs. JMS).

We will see as i go though the re viewing. I was very underwhelmed by the "hole in your mind" conclusion.

"Deathwalker"

For some reason, I REALLY love this episode. Perhaps it just how..visceral Na'Toth attack is, perhaps that its star trek, without being star trek, perhaps since the Vorlons take care of everything, perhaps I think that Dilgar are cute, in a genocidal type way. The B-plot is odd, and I assume its a thread that was dropped in the changeover of cast.

Anyways, B+

Yes, had Divided Loyalties played out differently, Kosh very well may have pulled this "recording out". Since Divided Loyalties played out the way it did, there was no reason to follow up on this thread.

If you haven't watched In The Beginning yet, then you may not have made the connection----but the "hole in your mind" explanation Lennier gave conveniently left out a key detail. Think about War Without End. Also keep Atonement in mind.

I'm noticing a disturbing lack of "Jane is Awesome!" and "Jane totally made this episode for me" posts, Mr. Distorted Humor. You'll be working on that, right?
