X-Men Origins: Wolverine workprint leaked - Not April Fools

Because some loud fanboys have bitched about it your seriously asking this question. This will have minimum to zero impact because this film like all others isn't made strictly for the fanboys. The masses made X:3 a hit despite their moaning post opening weekend.

This movie is headed north of $150m, most likely going to end up in the $180-$200m for North American total and probably in the neighborhood of $500m World Wide.

This movie is the first summer movie. Its got the Marvel tag. People know and like Wolverine and Hugh Jackman. Its going to be big regardless of the quality which we can all discuss then. Not on some unfinished, missing minutes leaked work print.

Guess what, it was no masterpiece, but I actually liked it.

My thoughts too. It wasn't a bad movie at all. They definitely rushed through some parts, but Wolverine was played awesome by Jackman as always. I had not planned to see it in the theaters anyway, but I'll rent it when it comes out. Most of the SFX were done, but I just used my imagination for those that weren't. Wasn't a big deal.

Note: there are two additional scenes in the credits.

The first is the STryker continuing his "walk" which leads to his capture by the military. The second is wolverine at a bar in Canada, trying to regain his memory. this scene is obviosuly the bridge to the beginning of the first X-men film.

Odd, that they were obviously trying to tie this film into it, especially with the set design and the overall location of the Weapon X facility, but wthe film has obvious differences.

1. The location of the Weapon X facility is atop the cliff, not underground.
2. Bryan Singer showed them celebrating with champaign or wine in the flashbacks. There was none of that here.
3. In the original films, it was implied that Wolverine never had bone-claws.
4. How does Xavier lose his walking ability anyway?

Wolverine is just another X-Men incarnation with which moviegoers have already said they like. Its going to at least open big and depending on buzz for Star Trek have a 60% drop.

1) Wolverine agreeing to become Weapon X. WTF? Wolverine never agreed to become Weapon X. He was turned into it against his will. That's a major facet of his backstory. He has absolutely no gripe with the government if he agreed to have the skeleton put in.

Spoiler: Wolverine's Motives

The government, in the form of Stryker and Victor, killed or maimed members of Wolverine's old team.

They faked the murder of his girlfriend by Sabretooth so that Wolverine would get the adamantium endoskeleton, which was his only way of exacting revenge on Victor - who was shown to easily defeat him and break his bone claws in an earlier fight.

Stryker immediately tried to kill Logan because he had served his purpose in testing the adamantium bonding procedure for the Weapon XI project, which Wolverine overheard, prompting his escape.

Agent Zero then murders the elderly couple which took Logan in following his escape.

So he still has quite a valid gripe with the government and Stryker in particular before he loses his memory.

I feel for him - I always feel for actors who get screwed by production and studio incompetence, when that really happens, as in this case - but one must note that a Ferrari without a paint job is still a Ferrari - no one would confuse it with a rusted-out Studebaker sedan. "Origins" is too clearly not a Ferrari.

It was a good film, but to be honest, i didnt actually notice the problems, it dosent detract from the story at all. once again, i didnt personally download it :P

I usually rent most of the movies I watch anyway. Star Trek will be the exception to my rent 'em rule.

^Well, if I think a movie is going to be good I'll shell out and go to the theater - there's a relatively cheap one literally across the street. I did that for 'Watchmen.' 'Star Trek' shall likely be my next theater viewing and I'll save 'Wolverine' for the DVD.

I haven't seen the workprint just yet, only because the last time I checked out a leaked workprint I noticed a considerable jump in quality. Rob Zombie's Halloween remake leaked back in late 2007 and I thought it was horrid. There was maybe a few things I liked, but overall I thought it sucked. While the final version still had many flaws, it was mostly due to the writing, while the workprint had horrible pacing, needless scenes, bad composition and it was just simply put a bad edit.

Take, for example, one scene. Laurie's father walks out of the Strode house to grab a smoke. In the workprint, we follow it from Michael's perspective, as he slowly moves towards the father and then slices his throat. But because we've seen it from Michael's POV, all of the tension was gone. You knew the father was going to die. In the final version, we follow it from the father's perspective, and even though I knew the father was going to die, the "jump scare" moment was surprisingly effective, even more effective for me because I was expecting something entirely different. However, it was literally the one true "jump scare" in the entire film and had it not been cut that way, the scene would have been boring and completely unnecessary.

So when T'Baio says editing can make or break a film, he is not kidding. While it would be fun to watch the workprint and then the final version, I think this time I'm going to wait and watch the final version and then watch the workprint, and compare and contrast that way. It'll probably make the moviegoing experience that much better and plus I can still have my little comparative analysis. Only this time I'll be going into the film with fresh eyes.

Well I saw Fast & Furious tonight with an 80% full house and Wolverine was the only trailer to get actual positive vocals from the group. So to me its just further proof that the mass audiences don't care, don't know, don't follow workprints and the week to week development of a movie.
Its going to be huge regardless of a few thousand fanboys bitching and moaning about it.

Yeah, I saw Adventureland last night and the Wolverine trailer actually got applause at the end. So I think if anything the movie will open huge. People love Jackman as Wolverine, since he was pretty much the main draw of the first three movies, and it is as already mentioned the first blockbuster of the summer. Regardless of what everyone's about the leaked workprint, as a fan of the first three, of Jackman's portrayal and of the X-Men in general, I'm looking forward to this.

As a brief one off comment what did you think of Adventureland?

I liked it and think if they had been more faithful in advertising the type film it was it would've done better. All the "from the director of Superbad" set people up falsely for the tone of the movie I think.
