X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Casting, Rumors, Pics till release)

Also Beast is fully blue in this movie, even though this movie takes place before X2 when we saw a cameo of Hank McCoy.

And that Hank McCoy was played by a different actor than played the role in X3 (Kelsey Grammer), just as different actors played Colossus in each. No point getting too hung up about it.

^ Sorry, you're right, it was (Daniel Cudmore). I knew there was someone else as well as McCoy, but as Admiral Young said, it was Kitty.

They did change the look of Colossus' armour between movies, though, which is not unlike the fur situation.

We already know that the first X-Men film would have been better served had it been a straight up origin movie (uh-oh I said that nasty word again...origin) but Singer chose to have the X-Men already established. Thus as always when doing prequel films, continuity becomes a little messy.

Well nobody could forsee fucking up the X-Men so badly they'd have little choice but to go backwards instead of forward. If X1 was an origin film, then X3 still ends all potential of the films going anywhere.

You mean no one could foresee Zak Penn and Brett Ratner ruining what should have been a viable franchise to the point where Fox decided to make prequels. Then they messed up the Wolverine movie. Singer wrote a treatment, almost directed himself and voila we have "X-Men:First Class". There have been rumors that Singer will direct "X-Men 4" once he's finished his commitments to "Jack The Giant Killer".

What a terrible, uninspired photo, and the contents aren't much better. Everything about this movie screams 'half-assed'. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd dearly like to see a good X-Man film again, but this looks tacky as all hell...

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

Which I agree with Trent, looks half assed.

Still doesn't explain why or how you two think this movie is "half-assed".
Based on the photos & interviews I've read.
I'm also not crazy about the cast or the many of the characters in it. I've also read many of the comments on other boards, posts & blogs. Besides here, very few seem pleased with what they know of this film. So you can say, I'm trusting my instinct.

I also remember many here being excited about X3 & Wolverine before they came out too. Surprise, surprise!!! So I think it's going to take allot more then this to win that audience back.

I could also turn it around and ask you the same.
What have you seen that makes you so gung-ho about it, that you don't see it as anything less than a success?

I don't think any of us has seen enough of it to make any real kind of judgment yet. I have no feelings about this movie whatsoever.

I have faith in Matthew Vaughn and Bryan Singer, who have pretty reputable track records. The fact that 20th Century Fox didn't greenlight the film until they saw Bryan Singer's treatment instills a lot of faith. I know some fans discredit Singer because of Superman Returns, but people tend to forget that he jumpstarted the whole X-Men franchise and in essence the modern superhero movie genre with his X-Men films. The fact that he's producing makes me really excited for this project. Also, Matthew Vaughn is a superbly talented director, who really knocked it out of the park with films like Layer Cake and Kick-Ass. I couldn't have asked for two better filmmakers to spearhead this production.

I also think the cast is simply superb- James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Bryne, Kevin Bacon, Oliver Platt, Jennifer Lawrence, etc. - are all terrific actors. They've really assembled a terrific ensemble cast for this film. They could have picked teenybobbers and mediocre actors, but they picked actors who have done fantastically dramatic and engaging films. Even the younger actors, like Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult, are really inspired choices. Jennifer Lawrence really jumped into the screen with Winter's Bone, and is getting a lot of praise and accolades for her work in that film. Nicholas Hoult was terrific most recently in A Single Man starring opposite Colin Firth. He's a really bright young actor and I'm excited to see him amongst the cast of bright young stars.

There are also a lot of other tidbits that have gotten me really excited, from everything I've heard in regards to the story and the epic, global approach they've taken with this particular story. I understand fans' hesitations after the last two X-Men films, but for some reason I have a lot of faith in Vaughn, Singer, the cast and the story sounds really fantastic so far. Of course, 20th Century Fox could screw it all up, but I think they realize the mistakes they've made with the franchise, which is why they went back to Vaughn and Singer, two directors whom have left 20th Century Fox before to make films in which they felt they had more creative freedom. Obviously they were enticed back, and I think for a certain reason.

^ All of what JA just posted is why I'm also excited. I understand the hesitations from fans but we've barely seen anything from the production except on set still photos and a cast photo. I'm really excited about seeing a trailer next.

I'm not sure on the outrage over the costumes. Frankly those are barely more than bust shots of the actors and their layered overtop one another. Based on just what I see I think it looks fine. I'm waiting for some full size images of the actors before making my final opinion on the costumes.

Franky I'm just glad that after so many other comic characters have had great adaptations of their costumes that the X-Men are finally getting the treatment. I mean outside Xavier and Magneto we didn't get that. I'd love if Mystique is shown in her white dress with the skull belt at some point as well.

A badly photoshopped cast photo is a bad choice if you wanna convince a twiced burned audience that this is going to be a film worth paying for because it's just creating bad word of mouth.

They didn't exactly put their best foot forward.

^ Fair enough and I agree with you on that. One bad photo doesn't mean the entire production is going to be shite though. The majority of the posters here seemed to like the photo...if you don't like it that's fine but that doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.
