X-Men: Apocalypse announced for May 2016

glad that Havok is returning. and i hated how they killed Banshee offscreen. one of the few things about Days of Future Past i didn't like.

Killed off-screen so who knows but yeah, it was unnecessary. He had one of the more interesting powers. Seemed a shame to waste him when instead you could write him knackering his vocal chords like in the comics.

When did they mention Banshee being killed ?

If it was early in the film, won't the reset affect his death ?

^ probably. I haven't seen it since the cinema and couldn't remember who was listed as dead and who simply didn't return.

I believe they mentioned (and showed autopsy files of) Banshee, Angel (from First Class, not Warren Worthington), Azazel and Emma Frost.

Especially since we see his teenage daughter in X2.

Eh... Him being 20 something in the early 60s and his 'daughter' being a fairly young teenager in the late 2000s was already going to feel weird. I'd just as easily find out she was actually his granddaughter, which would mean there's no particular problem there (since we have no exact date on his death, we can assume he had enough time to have a child before he died).

I do think it was a shame to eliminate him (and Emma, as well) after such a small part.

The X-men movies were set in 'the near future' in 2000 so trying to date them is far trickier. Potentially if he was only 16 in First class and Syrin was only 14 or 15 in X2, he could be in his forties when she was conceived. Seems more than plausible.

Well, the actress they cast as Emma was pretty disappointing -- she sure looked the part, but her performance was lifeless and bland. So it's no wonder they declined to bring her back.

True enough - but it is always a shame to see potential wasted with no chance of redemption unless there's a reboot.

Mind you, very few of the villains have had fleshed out personalities. Deathstrike had no personality at all. While they often look great, I have been disappointed in almost every villain they've done to date. Magneto and Mystique have been exceptions although Mystique has been transformed only in the recent trilogy and her spotlight has meant that many actual members of the X-men have been reduced almost to cameos. It's tough to balance the characters in an ensemble. The Avengers has done well but with a smaller focus. Apocalypse should be a welcome addition if he is allowed some development but if I'm honest, I wouldn't be disappointed if they gave Mystique and Wolverine a rest and actually focused on the team for a change. We'll see...

I imagine most of these new characters will have been students at the school before the movie started. Likely only one or two will be introduced during the actual plot of the film.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting him to look so close to the comics version. They even have the red and black color scheme with the shirt and jacket. I like it.
