X-Men: Apocalypse announced for May 2016

The other plot hole is how Kitty is able to maintain her temporal mind meld with Wolverine for days on end without taking a break for eating, sleeping, or other bodily needs. Having Rogue around to borrow Kitty's powers and spell her is the only way to make sense of it.
As I understand it, Rogue is only brought in when Kitty is dying from Logan's mid-movie freakout, so that wouldn't address that.

I thought Rogue's scenes involved the destruction of the mansion, so I don't see how her scenes have any real impact on the movie's plot.

In the theatrical cut, Mystique's DNA is supposedly the reason that Sentinels can copy other mutant powers. Except Mystique can't copy powers, she can only mimic appearance. In the alternate cut, Rogue is the reason that the "scary future" Sentinels can duplicate powers.
Where did you read that? Mystique's DNA being used for the future Sentinels is absolutely central to the movie's plot. It seems rather unlikely that that would be different in the altered version.

The future Sentinels did use Roque's powers to absorb powers of the mutants and use it against the other mutants like the battle between iceman and sunspot against the sentinels

It's not a typo. Fox's superhero movie for this year is Fantastic Four, with Apocalypse coming next year. (Also Deadpool and Gambit, apparently).

Here's ComicsAlliance's handy infographic of all the superhero movies for the rest of the decade:

^ He meant the Rogue Cut blu-ray, I believe, which has been promised for some undefined date this summer.
True.

I read May 27 without registering the 2016 and took that as the 'Rogue Cut' release date for 2015.

Anyone got a date for it ?

Oh, sorry. From what I can find, the Rogue Cut comes out this summer, but no firm date has been announced yet.
Yeah, that's what I meant. Maybe I just misread the previous posts, but either way, thank you for clarifying on this point.

Yeah, the whole point of going back and stopping Mystique is to prevent Trask from getting samples of her DNA.

Now, maybe Rogue's powers play into that as well, but I'd hardly call it a plot hole.

To be honest Rogue being the source of the Sentinels' adaptability makes way more sense to me than Mystique, but Rogue isn't played by Jennifer Lawrence.

Mystique's DNA gave what they needed to get the Sentinels up and running, but Rogue's DNA is what they needed to give them the adaptive powers that made them strong enough to truly overpower mutants.

Makes me wonder a bit what role Rogue might play in these new movies, although in the new future/present timeline she's still at the school, with Bobby although I think the streak is still in her hair, which means the events of X1 still might have taken place in some form. Also I'm guessing that X3 was pretty much wiped out, although I suppose the cure didn't take in the original timeline since Magneto still has his powers (Although X3 did hint that).

Maybe they'll have Mystique raise Rogue like in the comics.

Yeah, I know. But that's exactly why it's a plot hole. Regardless of what the theatrical film implies, Mystique does not have the ability to copy the powers of other mutants, only their appearance. So how do the future Sentinels really get the ability to copy powers?

I guess we'll see in a few months. ;)

I haven't heard any indication the Rogue cut changes that.

And just because Mysique either doesn't know how to use her abilities for that purpose or is incapable of using her abilities for that purpose doesn't mean her DNA doesn't have the secrets to creating Sentinels that can do that.

Remember, the Sentinels don't copy mutants powers, they change themselves to adapt. That's not Rogue's powers either. It's Darwin's powers, if you want to be technical, but it's not Rogue. Rogue drains the life from people, including their memories and abilities.

Well, Apocalypse is set purely in the '80s, so unless we get a cameo from her as a baby or little kid, I doubt we'll see her.

Actually, they do seem to absorb mutant powers and transmit them to other Sentinels. They just happen to absorb the ones that would be most effective in dealing with others (absorbing Sunspot to take out Colossus and Iceman).

My impression, I think, was that they weren't "absorbing" mutant powers so much as scanning and duplicating them. After all, the mutants didn't lose their powers the way people do when Rogue touches them (at least, not that I recall). The Sentinels were more like Amazo in DC, the android that can duplicate the power of any superhuman after observing it.

Yeah, I think AMAZO is a good analogy. But, bottom line, any nitpicking for Mystique could be nitpicked for Rogue too.

Or like the futuristic sentinel, Nimrod. I'm not sure if the writers of the comic ever thought to try tying its abilities in with someone like Rogue, or just assumed it was based mainly on advanced technology.

Nimrod was similar in contruction to Warlock and his father The Magus both of which were techno-organic beings.

You just reminded me how confusing "Warlock and The Magus" were to me when I first encountered them in the x-universe after being such a fan of the Starlin versions.
