WoW - Musings & Discussion

I like raiding since it's a good way to get a group of people together and do something; the entire point of an MMO. I do agree though it's pointless to argue the finer points of appropriate dps or anything else as you quickly get into these circular debates that go nowhere.

If you like to do it and you keep at it, you'll do well with practice. Or you'll find it's not something you like and go find something else. People who start checking off requirements are the ones who take it too seriously and forget it's meant to be a game to be enjoyed, not a job application and proof of experience.

It has begun!!!

Last night the "Stormwind City is under attack" messages started scrolling up the chat window at warp speed so I knew it was a big raid. I went to help. Yup, sure enough, the whole raid was filled with people who had made the faction change from Alliance to Horde. I guess that's gonna be the first thing everyone does when they switch... go back for a visit to their old capital city. :)

So I got to kill some of my old guildmates, the dirty turncoats. :klingon:  :)

Welcome to raiding a year ago I guess.
I stopped reading right here. Thanks for basically proving my point. :techman:

No, my point is that most established guilds have moved on from running that content and you have not, so expecting established guilds on your server to cater to the needs of a mint 80 isn't very realistic. Sorry you missed that though (and the rest of my post) and instead took it as an insult. It's an evolving MMORPG in the final stages of an expansion that has been out for a year, and what you're doing now is akin to wondering why BT/Sunwell raiding guilds a year ago had no interest in running you through Karazhan.

Probably one of the most difficult aspects of the game is the quest to find the perfect guild to fit your style of play. It's true, most guilds seem to want to do nothing but raid in this stage of the expansion, whereas I am a seriously casual player. (I still haven't seen the insides of half the BC endgame content, or even some vanilla.):guffaw: But there are guilds out there that cater to different playstyles. It's just a matter of finding them. If all else fails, start your own guild. :)

There are all kinds of guilds. PVE guilds, levelling guilds, pvp guilds, guilds that do a mix of everything... But yeah most guilds right now that are focusing on raiding end game content are no longer running Naxx and expect you to get Ulduar/ToC appropriate gear on your own time.

I know plenty of guilds still running Naxx to gear players; newbies and alts alike. It's not like they are hard to find on any of the servers I play either and there's always pugs doing something.

I don't do endgame as I've little interest in gear and even less interest in submitting myself to the evaluation of a largely juvenile other.

i dont do much endgame stuff either... i try to complete quests and get matching gear (tough without doing raids). i also just reroll characters... i've recently gotten into doing BGs. lots of fun now that twinks are removed

I hear some twinks are being whiny and ruining BG's by taking the flag or hampering objectives and forcing draws as a way to "protest" their being forced to compete fairly against others in their own BG's.

In case you didn't notice, not a fan of twinks or BG's, though mainly because of twinks.

i hadn't heard of that, nor have i seen it happen when i play. that sucks, but honestly, i'd rather have them try to hold a game hostage rather than ruin a game outright...

if you haven't tried BG's, or tried before the twink change, i say give it another look. i managed to get my wife hooked on it. she's now using it to level her character (and get matching sets of gear).

I may pop into BG's but honestly I am more into raids. I do bg's occasionally but I find it's much easier and effective to do raids if you want to have cooperative game play and people following directions and focusing on the same task. BG's always seem to consist of twinks (now gone thankfully) and glory-hogs who are in it only to gain honor kills and do their own thing instead of trying to win against the opposition.

Yep. I just joined a rather huge casual raiding guild. They do have a main raid group that's in Ulduar/TOC, but also have plenty of players to still do Naxx and what not. It's great to be able to get back into raiding without being expected to do it 5 nights a week. Even if they raided that often, they have so many members I would be sat at least a couple of days a week, which I would welcome at this point. They have tons of tanks, mostly of the pally variety, like myself.

The only thing I do sympathize with as far as twinks go is their queue time. They should extend twinking across all regional battle groups instead of limiting it to just one, that would probably help a lot.

The number of people who actually enjoy the challenge of twinking and competing against other twinks is probably outnumber by those who simply like to faceroll lowbies ten to one, but they do exist. I play with a couple of them and the queue times are the only thing they really complain about.

On the issue of twinks I'm torn between my empathy for the values they claim to hold dear and my gut instinct that most of them are lying.

I spent a few months at 50-59 as a non-twink Fire Mage a while back, picked up the Conqueror title and a full array of Honor gear along the way. I got to know the twink community fairly well and even enjoyed playing against some of 'em.

I've obviously missed something. What is this twink change everyone's talking about? I don't remember reading anything anywhere about a twink change.

Disabling xp puts them in a different queue that is non-xp players only. From what I hear, the queue times for their bgs are 2 hours or so in most battle groups.

I tend to agree with making one massive battlegroup for twinks. The other solution is probably to designate one battle group as the unofficial twink one. Though, I can't help but wonder how many simply are no longer playing now that they can't steamroll everyone else.

In short, they are the bullies of the BG's. Now that all the kids they used to push around are safely away from them and they have only one another to fight they've lost interest and are crying foul, doing their best to ruin the BG's by hogging the flag or intentionally hampering their sides attempts to win in the normal, exp-gaining BG's.

I've known very, very few twinks who were truly in it to battle other skilled opponents of their level. The rest are as I said, the schoolground bully of the virtual world. They're in the same class as a level 80 who goes to lowbie levels and ganks them because there's no one to stop it from happening.

On a more positive note, I've seen the new Pandaran vanity pet and he's awesome. I don't know how we'll get one, though it is bind on account. :D

Let's take a moment to say a prayer for our neighbourhood Kitty Druids:
