WoW - Musings & Discussion

I'm not particularly keen on the idea of buying in game items, but I couldn't resist picking both of them up. The Pandaren in particular was getting a lot of reactions. They did a pretty good job with the animations and sounds for both of them.

I heard a lot of "sorry, I was playing with your pet" while we were doing the daily. Lucky I don't take any damage, since the healer was distracted the whole time.

You should listen to the Ragnarok Online soundtrack. It beats wow by a mile. Tho the theme of Dalaran reminds me a LOT of BSG...

Oh, and im totally getting the Pandaren Monk...

Really? I'm going to have to take a listen.
I love that kind of music. For me, one of the best things about Star Wars Episode I was the soundtrack, which was awesome.
Great big, massive choirs with orchestra, heaving drums, low bass lines, trumpet fanfare, ah yeah, that's the stuff.

I agree with you there, I just watched TPM the other night and once again I was rather in awe of the music. It's terrific and in keeping with the music from Ep IV, just perfect. I've got the soundtrack around here somewhere, have to dig it out.

I finally did the respec on my Paladin. It was slightly dated from the previous patch... and with the new patch possibly weeks away, it seems I'll probably do another respeccing then too.

That's expensive.. I was listening to the WOTLK soundtrack the other day, not really as distinctive as the others but good. That's the only one I have access too. If I can find someone with the other ones I will burn them, I figure I pay my subscription fee so this is hardly stealing :)

I guess they only came out with the Special Editions?
Well, Collector's Editions, but yes. However, they're also available on iTunes, and the soundtrack for the first game is available for purchase on CD from Blizzard's shop.

Also I am a Human Warrior and is it me or do they suck ??? everyone I see are something else and am wondering if theres a good reason for that.

Nothing wrong with warriors (I play horde so I think there is something wrong with humans in general  ) but it's a little difficult to level up I guess (I can't say but that's something I've been told). If you lmanage to go level 80, it will be great, there is a lot of demands for tanks in groups :)

Pretty much makes the Drood cheetah pointless. It's slower than a lvl 20 horsie, and you don't even get it until lvl 30. :vulcan:

I rerolled a druid recently you get the cheetah at level 16 now.
I had a lot of fun with it in warsong between levels 16 and 19 ;)

Huh? Tu joues à WoW????? Quel serveur, bordel?!

Rob Pardo: Arena was a mistake

If I was going to pick on a game design thing that I look back on and think was a mistake? We really never designed WoW to be a competitive e-sports game; it was something that we decided to start tackling because there was such a desire and demand to evolve it in that direction, to introduce competitive arenas. I'm not sure that that was the right thing to do with the game.

We didn't engineer the game and classes and balance around it, we just added it on, so it continues to be very difficult to balance. Is WoW a PvE cooperative game, or a competitive PvP game? There's constant pressure on the class balance team, there's pressure on the game itself, and a lot of times players who don't PvP don't understand why their classes are changing. I don't think we ever foresaw how much tuning and tweaking we'd have to do to balance it in that direction. Either I'd go back in time to before WoW ever shipped and change the rules to make the basic game more conductive for being an e-sport, or if not that, just say it doesn't make sense. Right now, WoW has a bit of a schizophrenic philosophy behind it, and we're trying to figure out how to guide it.

It's tricky, now that we've gone down that road, because we have a passionate, large audience that enjoys it - the Arena, the e-sport - so we can't just chop off that head. We can't just say, "We fouled up and will go back to how it used to be before," because we have a really passionate audience that wants it in the game.

If I could go back in time before we shipped WoW, I would have either made serious changes to basic class balance to facilitate that type of play, or if I went back to when we had the idea two years later, I would have said, "Maybe we shouldn't go there."

Personally my largest issue with PVP in WoW has always been gear, in that I think it should be almost totally divorced from the PVP environment. Gear serves as a pacing and character differentiation mechanism in PVE, it's fundamentally anti-competitive in PVP and leads to unhealthy and unsatisfying play that drags the game down for everyone.

In any case, this is one of the reasons Blizzard is one of the top devs around: they're willing to admit their mistakes. The rest of the interview is worth a look also.

I can't argue with it either. I don't mind there being PVP content but the arena aspect has overshadowed the PVE and to a lesser extent the rest of the PVP to the point it's become a major problem balancing the two sides so that PVE and PVP abilities aren't over or under powered compared to the other or give a distinct advantage.

Now if they'd just admit they need to branch abilities off into distinct PVE/PVP catagories and adjust accordingly, it would fix a lot of these balancing issues and the endless nerfing of one aspect of the game to balance a problem in the other.

I don't, it'd weaken the sense of a persistent world/character. I thoroughly dislike the dual-talent system as it is.

Of course, that's the same argument presented against removing gear from the system. I think the effects of changing abilities/talents are rather more far-reaching, though, particularly as removing gear from the equation wouldn't necessarily involve compromising at all on visual customisation.

So my Death Knight alt dinged 80 on Sunday. The good news: he's already doing over 2k dps even though my weapon is horrible. The bad news: I couldn't find a group for heroic HoL because nobody on my server runs anything except the daily. I couldn't help but think that were 3.3 released already, this would be a non-issue. WTB cross-server lfg! It's a great idea and I want it NOW!

Rumors are swirling sometime in the second week of December for the patch. Of course being a rumor I am not betting on it even if I am kind of hoping it is.

I've been away from the game for a few months now, and so I'm sitting here wondering whether I should resub or put it off until Cata or at least 3.3, and as I'm doing this an e-mail from Blizzard comes through offering me 7 days free play. I should check for cameras. :shifty:

Trivia tidbit: I was looking for cheese in Dalaran for my cooking quest and somewhere I stumbled upon a sleeping red cat names Jones. It made me smile.

Heh, that's one I haven't spotted yet. :)

I got my Pilgrim title last night and the pet Plump Turkey. If there's a campfire nearby, he will "sense his destiny" and jump in and roast himself. The Turkinator achievement was daunting (kill 40 turkeys with no more than 30 seconds between kills) but turned out to be pretty easy. Got it on the first try.
