Would you perform CPR on someone with Herpes?

Let's asume you know CPR. Someone has just gone for swim and now they are about to die. You can save their life but you notice that this person has gotten a raw deal out of oral sex. Would you do the CPR and risk getting Herpes? Would getting Herpes on your mouth be so bad if it means saving a human life?

I would do it because I have always wanted to be a Hero and do something like that. Plus it's begginning to look like I will never get laid anyways so it's not like my sex life can get worse.

I'm an R.N., and I'd almost never do rescue breathing on a stranger without a barrier.
I carry one with me too. The emphasis on the rescue breathing part of CPR has been drastically reduced of late. We're now doing 30 chest compressions to two breaths starting with the compressions. The thought is that there is inhalation occurring during the rapid compressions and that the importance is in circulation of the oxygenated blood (although it's less oxygenated for a patient who isn't breathing).
The plastic barriers are cheap and small hence easy to carry. Anyone who is trained in CPR and BLS should carry one.

I have a barrier device. I also carry a BVM [bag valve mask] in my trauma kit. Having performed it in the past, there's nothing like hearing and feeling the ribs break when you do the first compression.

OK, well then my answer is yes, I would risk the herpes.

My understanding (limited though it is) is oral herpes is just a cold sore. As long as you don't wipe your mouth and touch yourself it won't become genital herpes.

I don't believe Jayson suggested it would, he was talking about contracting cold sores. It is true however that you can get cold sores from performing oral sex on somebody with the HSV-2 virus.

Yeah, i get that. But in Australia anyway, we encourage people who are uncomfortable or unfamiliar with CPR to at least perform compressions only at the very least. Whilst not ideal, its clearly better than nothing at all. Once qualified ALS personnel arrive on the scene, more comprehensive treatment can be provided.

So would I perform CPR on someone with herpes? Why not? Give me some dental floss and I'm there.

I would do it even if I had nothing to use as a barrier device. I would rather live with mouth herpes than to live with the knowledge I let someone's love die because I was scared.
