Would Tasha Yar have worked on DS9 is not killed off ?

DumbDumb2007

If the character of Tasha Yar had not been killed off in the early days of TNG would she have worked as a regular character on Deep Space Nine ?
She had a troubled past. Since DS9 had a dark edge to it how would shehave worked as a Starfleet Security Officer assigned to that distant outpost ?

Can't see why not. Tasha could be a little uptight but I thihk she'd be OK. Bet Quark would try it hit it, tho.

Maybe with a different actress, but with Denise Crosby around it would've made Terry Farrell look like Meryl Streep.

In all honesty, these threads are entirely ridiculous. Worf is the only TNG regular who ever could've fit in on DS9. I would sooner see Chakotay, Tom Paris or Tuvok (imagine him instead of Eddington, I'm sure that would've proven interesting) from Voyager as being easily molded into the DS9 tapestry.

Actually I think she would've made for an interesting Tactical Officer once Worf emmigrated to DS9 & Geordi was left to act as temporary First Officer / Captain in the absence of Data, once Riker n' Troi married & left to be reassigned to the Titan.

I think she would've gone through an interesting time of self-discovery & transformation. From hard-boilled waif / runaway to a self-assured beautiful woman & a kick ass First Officer, helping Geordi overcome his own Ensign Kim-type shyness towards his leadership abilities. Tasha would've made for a complicated yet understandable character a-la Sydney Bristow from TV's "Alias".

I'm actually interested in seeing an alternate universe fic with Tasha in the center seat of the Enterprise-D or Enterprise-E versus the Borg (or The Dominion,) with all hell breaking loose before Odo's temporary agreement to return to the Great Link to cure them of Section 31's 'designer disease' & handle the Founders' reaction to the Jem Hadar's newly discovered resistance & recovery from absolute dependance on Ketracel White, thanks to Dr. Bashir & Starfleet Medical.

Not played by Denise Crosby, no. But with a different actress, tweak the character some...and, you just end up with Kira. So we already HAD her on DS9, but as the DS9 version - much better.

You know, I don't think Crosby is comparatively that bad of an actress when in the company of her co-stars, butTemis got it right. Yar would just be filling the same role as Kira, and Kira fills it better (and Nana Visitor is a pretty fine actress).

I would have thought that Jeri Ryan filled anything best, but I see your point ;)

Even the hugely overrated Nana Visitor would look like Morgan Freeman compared to Crosby. There's a reason why she has never been in another tv show ever (except one episode of Dexter where she was murdered after two lines of dialogue, thankfully.)

Denise Crosby was actually okay on Dexter in her small role. I found it pretty cool, nerd-wise, that Dex's first time was Tasha Yar. ;)

Anyway, Visitor is overrated a bit. She's better than Farrell, but not quite in the same league as Auberjonois, Shimerman, Meaney and Dorn. Still, it's true she did the Kira part better than Crosby did the Yar part, but it's also true she was given better material anyway.

I think the Yar character wasn't really developed enough for us to get an idea... I mean, she didn't even have one season, and that one season was very light on episodes that gave us an idea of who she really was. We got her backstory, but not much on who she was in the present, so I think the character could have developed a number of ways.
