In all seriousness though, you should watch Deep Space Nine all the way through if you get a chance. Like TNG it took a while to find its footing in the first couple of seasons so I can see why you'd be put off by the first few episodes, but the last five seasons are some of the best of Trek in my opinion. It has the deepest arc-based plotlines, some of the most dramatic stories, the best huge ensemble cast where even most secondary characters are given more development than many main cast members of other Trek series, and action that is unrivaled by anything but the biggest Trek movies.

All of that is true, but some people may dismiss it simply because a black man and a woman are in charge.

Kirk, he kicks ass on behalf of the United States but with speeches about hope and change, this is what Kirk does in space, he beats up aliens and then lectures them on the virtues of the federation. Picard is too European.

I REALLY need to give this DS9 thing another look!

Yes, you really should. Though, I can imagine why some people would be put off if they'd only seen the first couple of episodes and weren't watching them with the intention to see the show the whole way through.

Anyway, Obama doesn't strike me as a Sisko fan (as badass as Sisko might be). He seems more like a Picard man.

Yeah, it was like "is this supposed to be riveting sci-fi?". Just couldn't take it. It's not on too often right now so it would entail buying the seasons. Glad to know it got better though.

DS9 in its first TWO seasons was no worse than TNG in its first two. show me a Duet or even a Progress in TNG's first season line-up and I'll stop thinking you're an idiot for abandoning the show after two eps.

I really am going to. I have nothing against it at all. And I do like those compassionate Cardassians. ;)

Why would you bring THAT up I wonder? :wtf:

^'cos it's true for some people? ;)

PS. I don't mean YOU. just, in general. and I've met some of those folks.

That's just plain silly. You need to disassociate yourself from those folks.

I could see if Sisko were a horrendous captain and went against what was best for the crew, that they would be firing those escape pods en masse. Or I could see if Kira (I assume?) was completely out of touch with the crew and blindly followed orders of Sisko, that the crew wouldn't take her seriously at all.

However, I can't imagine someone not liking Sisko simply because he's black, or Kira simply because she's a woman.

Perhaps attacking a poster for not continuing to watch a tv show is not the way to go? You might want to reconsider your post there bud.

I said I've met them. didn't say we were bosom-buddies ;)

... and much as you can't imagine anyone not voting for a black man for Prez?

hmm...

No problem. A simple misunderstanding. Have a good weekend.

Why do you assume that???

Personally--I am white, and the ONLY Star Trek commanders I would be comfortable serving under would be Sisko and Kira. I just don't think the others are strong commanders. The others either a) lack consistency, b) lack the ability to make the tough decisions, or c) show blatant sexism. I would much rather get a performance appraisal from Sisko than from Kirk because I know he'd actually be looking at the JOB I was doing (rather than marking me according to how much he wants to bed me--which I would be suspicious of with Kirk), and would deliver it to me straight. And I would rather serve with him in a crisis because I know he has what it takes to get the job done, and doesn't shy away out of bureaucratic concerns like Picard--nor is he wildly inconsistent like Janeway or Archer.

Tekeny Ghemor's a sweetheart, isn't he? ;)

(Oops...that's not what you meant...)
