Would like to see Enterprise come back…

I'm not sure why T'Pol would need him as an ally, unless Mayweather knew far more about Vulcans than the rest of the crew, which didn't seem to be the case.

Mayweather would be seen as an example of a logical human.

Vulcans do play favorites. Case in point, they wanted Gardner to be captain over Archer.

To be fair, we have no idea who was the more qualified person, Gardner or Archer. Because we don't know the backstories of either man as far as their Starfleet training is concerned, other than nepotism on the Archer family's part.

“My father always kept it at point eight G. He thought it put a little spring in his step.”

When Travis said that line in the pilot, I was immediately intrigued. I couldn’t wait to see how someone born and bred in space would add their unique understanding to the crew. Turns out I was going to wait forever…

Depends if Mayweather answers it logically to justify it. Which he very well might. He spends 4 years not doing anything wrong. He doesn’t even take any frustrations he might have regarding anything out on T’Pol throughout the show. He’s so cool and rational that T’Pol doesn’t seem to know what to make of Mayweather. Its atypical of her regular interactions with humans, even though its likely the Vulcan ideal.

Meanwhile, Hoshi told T’Pol to f herself or to f off in Vulcan in their very first meeting. Which is probably the norm for T’Pol. Minus it being said in Vulcan. AFAIK, she never even said thanks to T’Pol for the suggestion of Risa for shore leave, even she was the only one to actually enjoy herself there.

If anything, Hoshi, despite her friendship with Phlox, would probably get along with Tellarites the best. She’s not going to spend much time arguing with and insulting the crew knowing they only have each other to depend on. But there are hints she can hold her own in disagreements.

Maybe being silent and listening to orders and general advice is the experience he has to offer. He never seemed to go against any of T’Pol’s suggestions or recommendations, unlike Archer.

The only real friendships people had were between Archer and Trip, and Trip and Reed. T'Pol, Hoshi, Phlox and Mayweather did not have any real friendships with the rest of the crew, other than one episode where Phlox befriended Cutler. And of those last four, the only logical person I would see T'Pol trying to have a friendship with would be Phlox, due to the nature of them both being aliens serving on an Earth vessel. I see zero indication that T'Pol and Mayweather would have any kind of connection other than perhaps Travis's knowledge of space. But since his experience was never even a factor in the show normally, it wouldn't have made a difference here.

While I love and respect T’Pol and think she deserved more love and respect than she received (especially from TPTB), I wish Travis’ unique upbringing had given him more than “ability to see that the Vulcan has a point.” I can’t even articulate what that would be, like I said, I’m here for the romance, I never claimed to be adept at crafting believable science fiction. (That being said, giving Travis a romance would have been A-OK in my book, what’s with shoving all these beautiful people together and then nobody gets even an approximation of a happily ever after?)

Someone on a sci-fi show ought to be good at crafting believable science fiction though, shouldn’t they? And why go out of your way to point out this unique background and then pretty much never utilize it? Can you imagine if, in the original, after going out of their way to tell and show us Spock was half Vulcan, it only came up again in one or maybe two episodes? This human was born and raised in space. We, the rest of the humans on board, have perhaps visited space like people visit the Grand Canyon but we’re now going to be living in it for the foreseeable future and nah, nothing to ask? Nothing to see here, move along.

You think if T’Pol had caught him sitting upside down from the NX-01’s ‘sweet spot’ then she would have drawn that conclusion?

I think if anything, T’Pol and Hoshi might have made a good pair. There’s at least hints towards that in Season 1 toward the end.
Honestly, I wouldn't have minded seeing T'Pol and Mayweather sharing stories over the dangers of space travel and finding a way to manage based on their experience, in contrast to the rest of the crew's inexperience.

Not necessarily. Every writer has their strengths, be it drama, interpersonal interactions, comedy or action. It's not unusual to be strong in one area but lacking in others. Creating "believable science fiction" unfortunately is a very different standard for many people. For me, most SF enters the realm of fantasy because it largely ignores aspects of humans being in space in order to create believable drama for a contemporary audience.

No, Phlox and Hoshi are friends, as Phlox was teaching Hoshi Denobulan, and Hoshi often dropped by sickbay to chat with him in every season. There was even a deleted scene where Phlox continues the Denobulan lessons with Hoshi while tending to her injuries from the Romulan mine Enterprise hit.

Mayweather and Hoshi are also friends, thought that friendship wasn’t developed much, beyond suggestions of lower decks type fun, Mayweather eassuring Hoshi during the Xindi mission, and looking over the rules of the Ushaan to save Archer’s life.

T’Pol and Hoshi were supposed to become close friends according to the series bible, but it never got developed.

Its been suggested that Mayweather should have had practical experience in space exploration, while T'Pol expereince with space exploration was by the book experience. and that becomes a source of conflict.

And Mayweather did get a romance at the very end of the show. Even though it was hinted he would get together with a MACO in the third season.

If Mayweather had any romance on board before the end of the show, no one seemed to gossip about it.

Funny, I don't remember them being that close. But I'll take your word for it.

This shows how assiduously I have avoided the end of the show. Also, my preference for romantic plots are those that last entire seasons, or entire show runs. Give me all the getting to know each other, getting to trust each other, getting to love each other plots! I want every minor detail! (And no, in case anyone is wondering, this does not mean I would be better suited to watching things billed as romances because then they use stupid plot-stretching devices like love “triangles” and asinine miscommunication snafus that make me want to throw things at the screen. Things not billed as romances have, you know, actual plot that breaks up the romantic tidbits rather than contrivances.)

They definitely deserve it. I feel bad that their show ended so ignobly. Even though TOS had a short run, it got the films to kind of give them their final send off. I think ENT more than deserved it.

Only the romance of Trip and T’Pol was ever really developed over the series.

- Phlox, his three wives and all of their husbands were never explored, despite one of his wives appearing in an episode to hit on Trip.

- Phlox and Cutler never developed because the actress passed.

- Reed’s relationship with the Vissian weapons officer in the Cogenitor episode did not go past a single episode.

- A potential romance between Reed and Hoshi in the first season never happens.

- A potential relationship between Reed and chef was left on the cutting room floor.

- Archer’s girlfriend on Earth that we were supposed to be introduced to in the season 2 finale never made it into the episode and was left on the cutting room floor instead. As someone thought that it would be better to see more Klingons. As if we hadn’t seen the Klingons enough times already by that point.

- Hoshi’s relationship with her lover from Risa was never revisited, and unlike her mirror counterpart, she never seemed to have a relationship with anyone onboard or back on Earth.

- Even T’Pol 's relationship with her husband Koss did not get much exploration.

- Nevermind MACO and Starfleet personnel mixing together.

The show was just not focused on the personal lives of 99% of the crew.

When you think about it, TNG, DS9 and VOY seemed to have an easier go developing the personal lives of their crew. Even DIS is doing ok in that department.

Maybe more romance and less decon chamber could have saved the show?

But that would have required Star Trek: Enterprise to pass the Bechdel Test. What possible reason could the producers have had to depict women as full and complete human beings who have relationships with one-another and whose lives and emotions do not revolve around men, when they could film them rubbing baby oil in their underwear instead? /s

That would have been great. Also, it would have been great to see the crew not acting like incompetent dumbasses half the time.

True, but up until S3, Star Trek: Enterprise had no strong areas in the writing department.

I agree, but moreso about Season 2, although I will say I love "Cold Front." I think the talent was always there, just the premises were half-baked or already done better. There's the Jacquemettons who went on to do Mad Men, there's David A Goodman who did Futurama episodes especially "Where No Fan Has Gone Before", you have Sussman and Strong who had already wrote stuff like "Author, Author" but I remember more for "Future Tense" "Twilight" "Damage" and "In A Mirror Darkly", and Braga definitely wrote a great bunch of episodes back in the day, including one of my favourites "Frame of Mind."

Anyone who doesn't want Captain Archer to come back as Scott Bakula is a Xindi spy and Romulan collaborator!

V'las, take them away!

V'las: "I'm head of the Vulcan High Command I give the orders here, not you!"

Season 1 had a mix of good/bad episodes, none sterling, but passable. Its still good TV if not great Star Trek. S2 is where it hits a roadblock as all are middling or bad. S3 is fresh and S4 is a reinvention of the format.

On the regards on Romance, I still hold a torch for the Archer/T'Pol ship. Though it's been 20 years....

The Expanse forum has a sub-section to the ship with some art. It was a pleasant discovery XD.

I think a restarted Enterprise needs a B-cast. I.e. not the rest of the bridge crew.
