I'd hope that the end of Picard Season 3 means that the bad Borg are extinct.

Lower Decks tells us some form of the Borg still exist in the future, probably Jurati's, but we don't need to see that.

They were finished in TNG when Hugh and the Wimp Queen showed up. Then they had lost everything that made them interesting.

It would have been nice if they followed up with Guinan's original comment: "Someday, It might be possible to have a relationship with them..."

and made them a distrustful species that held to a mutual truce, which got stretched on occasion. This would require some very creative/clever story telling, mind you...

Maybe.
But i don't think that The Borg might become as interesting as they were in Q Who and The Best Of Both Worlds. The magic was gone when they became humanized.

yeah it's the age old problem of squeezing the orange until there is no more juice...which is what they did with the Borg, squeezed all the juice out.

Maybe they could have expounded on the implied alliance with 8472 as in the Voyager episode. It seemed like a truce with them was in its infancy...had that flourished, and 8472 became Federation allies, the Borg would be forced to come to the negotiation table...

I'd love to see the Borg in a different form, the Borg evolved from what they were in the 24th Century. As villains or benign beings or maybe a bit of both. I want to see how the galaxy has changed in all this time. I loved, for instance, the reveal that Vulcans and Romulans rejoined their societies and renamed the homeworld. The Orions becoming the new Big Bad of the galaxy was also a good idea; it really gave the feel that centuries have past, and societies have evolved and positions have shifted. I hope this series has more of that.
