Worst Main Cast Character in Any ST TV Series

At least Wesley was written out after a few years - and he improved or at least got less annoying.

Neelix is really annoying, but he does have some depth to his back story at least.

Kim is just lame. Can I pick Neelix and Kim?

I admitedly resent Kim since tptb kept him over Kes at the last minute. Kim is vaguely cute at least I guess, while Neelix hurts my eyes to look at. Voyager has some really great characters that I love, Janeway, Kes, Seven, the Doctor...but when they failed with a character, they failed spectacularly.

I always liked Neelix, great actor and as has been said he was supposed to be annoying. He had nuance and backstory and he changed and grew as the seasons went on. The same cannot be said about many Trek characters.

Hating on Neelix is like kicking a mangy animal you are not sure if it is a cat, dog or large rat.

TOS: Uhura. Not outright dislike, I just find her uninteresting. Her best moment was with "Adventure Boy" in SFS.

TNG: Pulaski. Hands-down my least favorite main character from any incarnation of Trek.

DS9: This is a tough one, because I think DS9 had the best overall cast of characters. I guess maybe Jake? See Uhura above for the reason.

VOY: Probably Kes, Kim or Chakotay. All for the same reason: Dull. Neelix is annoying, but at least he has a personality.

ENT: Travis. The single most boring character in all of Star Trek. He could put himself to sleep with his own dullness.

One sign of character growth with Neelix was his tendency to oversell his knowledge. This diminished quite a bit as the series went on, but he would still sometimes exaggerate. But through it all and his varied interactions with the crew, he always wanted to be needed, like a dog hungry for attention. They gave him a good send off.

One of the problems with Neelix is that in "Caretaker" he very cleverly manipulates the Voyager crew and then he almost never rises to that level of cunning again. If he had stayed that way we would have had a much more interesting Neelix.

Edit: For DS9 I should have said nine out of every ten Bajoran characters.

Well, calling him a "ship wreck(er)" was kind of a bit harsh, there, but ... you're not disowned, yet.

TOS - Uhura and/or Chapel
The Next Generation - Lwaxana and/or Barclay
DS9 - Kira
VOY - Kim and/or Neelix
ENT - Reed

Doesn't he?! Seems like whenever he's in command happens.

Sulu is close to being my worst for TOS. Uhura barely got used very well either, but Sulu was arguably just a living prop after the first season -- he got redeemed in the movies, but only then barely.

Top two fails are Chakotay and Beverlump.

I have a hard time discriminating between worst character and worst actor. Anyway, for what it's worth:

TOS: Sulu & Uhura.
TNG: Beverly. Troi was good when used properly (as rare as that may have been).
DS9: Jadzia
VOY: multiple choice?
ENT: Travis & Hoshi. I like all the others.

Reed, Mayweather, Chakotay, Kes, Jake, and Wesley would hands down be the dullest cast ever.

Jake is great in a few episodes but really they should have made him recurring and given characters like Garak a main spot.

^ Yes, calling Reed dull seems strange to me. With his cockiness balanced by easily-damaged pride, he makes any scene more fun. Gotta love the "Reed alert"!

Reed appealed to me more with each rewatch. He's so understated but also built oddly (psychologically), he was more than just the repressed Brit stereotype americans love.

And of course, there was Hayes and Hayes/Reed and.. it all got rather special.

Reed, Mayweather, Chakotay, Kes, Jake, and Wesley would hands down be the dullest cast ever.

Kes and Chakotay are my Voyager favorites together with Janeway on 3rd place!

I do find Jake boring in a way but I don't dislike him. The same with Kim, boring but likeable.

I never understodd the hatred towards Wesley. OK, he could be annoying sometimes but I actually like the character.

As for ENT, I did find the whole cast boring, except for Trip. But after watching Stargate Universe I realised that there were things much more boring than ENT.
