Worst Captain in Star Trek

Estaban is a bad Captain. Any excuse to do nothing and hide behind regulations to justify it. Fortunately, his inflexibility meant Saavik, David, and Child Spock didn't have a chance to be beamed aboard the Grissom before the Klingons arrived. So, even bad Captains have their place. Bad captain, but not the worst Captain.

Ransom is probably the worst Captain. Turning Slimer from Ghostbusters into fuel to power the Equinox, along with all his fellow Slimers. Not good. Generation Alpha would be especially upset, because Ransom was destroying slime, and slime is the Big Thing right now.

It was most definitely a warship. Galaxy class ships fought in the dominion war (in fact, they kind of started it, from one side's point of view). The kind of arrogant gunboat diplomacy of flying into inhabited systems in a fully armed battleship full of kids and civilians and pretending it's not a warship because they say it isn't does kind of show just how bizarre a show TNG season 1 was, and how stuck they were with some of the elements from that, later on.

You can put a couple of kids in the back seats of a B-52, but it's still a bomber.

The ships of the Galaxy class didn't become a warships until one of them got smeared across the face of the Gamma quadrant. Weknow from the USS Venture model, that the Galaxy class under went a significant upgrade after Dominion first contact and were fitted with extra phaser banks etc.. Before this the Galaxy class was the epitome of Federation arrogance and Starfleet's complacency. It was a glass cannon designed to go beyond the Federations borders under the assumption they could diplomacy their way out of conflict. But the Federation didn't count on encountering the Borg or the Dominion or the Husnock, and the Galaxy class was not at all prepared to face of capable of facing these threats.
