Wonder Woman's new look: At long last, pants!

E]

William Moulton Marston was also a "feminist theorist", I think he'd be laughing and seeing this as a desperate attempt to be politically correct, if anything he'd see this "de-sexualisation" as a mockery to his creation.

It's foolish, if generally safe, to speak for the dead.

In any event, the new costume looks good. Of course the original will be back eventually; that's a given.

I am imagining the shoulder pads from the jacket in red, and a part of her red top, so instead of the spagetti strap bathing suit it starts to resemble actual armour. Without seeing it drawn, maybe it would be hideous but I think I'd like it more than the jacket.
[...]

I can live with the boots, I've seen the gold straps described as "spurs", I guess by someone who's never had motorcycle boots. They are just straps to hod the boots firm, you can almost run in them without looking foolish. I'd like to see the costume with those boots in red, giving the same colour scheme as her gloves/bracers. Might not like it, but I'd like to check it out as an option.
I agree with most of what you said. As for the aforementioned parts, there is a doodle by a fellow poster in the other thread that deals very effectively with them, and it definitively works.

Here is the link.

(a bit "Saint Seiya - Knights of the Zodiac" now that I look at it again, but it goes well with the Greek motif!;))

While this is less objectifying and more practical, I don't think it's "de-sexualized." I think it's very sexy. Even with less skin, it shows off the shape of her bust and legs magnificently. And I love the satiny sheen of the top; it's very flattering and classy.

Lynda Carter's opinion of the new costume...
"I think it will take time for people to get over not seeing a lot of leg," she told ABC news. "[But] I think it's going to be very sexy and it's new and I love the little cap sleeve. You know, she's a hip girl. [...] "I think Wonder Woman has a mind of her own. And I think she was just kind of ready for something new. She's got an attitude and if this is the new thing that she wants to wear, well, by God, she's going to wear it. And I like that. And I hope that in the story someone mentions, where's the old one? And she says, get over it!"

Her and others opinions here.

What was so wrong with the older, classical costume? Oh that's right, they need to appeal to the now-demographic, the raised-in-the-streets-by-single-parent girls who are always going to drift towards Twilight, but never comics. Keeping her a royal representative of a powerful woman-only nation is not tickling the imagination of little girls it seems. An iconic character needs to be dumbed down and made a powerless street fighter to appeal to the minimal female comic book readers, eh?

Ooo, now that I like. The jacket is the main thing I'm kind of iffy on regarding the redesign, but that interpretation looks really cool. :techman:

Sorry call me old school or whatever I dont find this look for WW to be more sexy. I find it to be a sexy look for a new hero, but not for WW.

I didn't find WW old costume, with skirt or as the bathing suit to be objectifying or whatever, to me it was as iconic as Batman or Superman. She always pulled off the look. *shrug* It was feminine and powerful a strong statement that has endured for decades.

The less is more thing, Yeah I can see that, and often believe that for most heroines, however WW just pulled the look off somehow. I always saw a warrior not a sex object. Nothing wrong with showing her legs, I saw her look as more of a dance outfit, pants can get in the way of a good high kick, where her old look sure wouldn't.

Opinions vary I guess. However I suspect in time this new look won't last and her 'classic' look will return in a glorious new issue or annual hailing the return of the good old WW.

Re: Hot off the Presses, Wonder Woman's New Lookk!

Wow! Everyone everywhere is highly emotional about it tonight!

I dig it, I've always had a thing for Wonder Woman, I think this look is even "sexier" than her normal look.

And her new look, combined with JMS writing, I think I may get back into her book.

I agree with those that say it would have been a good 90s costume, but it definitely seems outdated in 2010. Looks too much like Rogue.

Yeah, I have to agree... It looks incredibly 1990s. The shoes, the jacket, even the gauntlets.

It's only missing the circular sunglasses.

Personally, I liked the old costume. I thought it worked, especially in Morrison's JLA.

But, I've stopped reading comics (for the most part) so I'm not the audience they are aiming for.

Besides, we all know, the iconic one will come back.
