Wonder Woman(NBC) *Spoilers!*

Maybe, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't think the recent Batman movies succeeded in avoiding being corny, they've just come closer than anyone else in my opinion (although Watchmen probably did it better come to think of it), and that's with a relatively plausible plot compared to the silliness of the Wonder Woman premise. I hope they do succeed in making something watchable of course, but I won't be holding my breath.

I don't see how any common ground can be established for meaningful dialogue in this case. There wasn't much if anything corny about the Nolan Batman movies.

2. What does the costume look like? The script only details it as "a colorful spandex suit." It won't be the original, iconic costume though (don't worry, she still keeps it hung in her closet). Despite that look being the company's top seller, Diana insists her current outfit is a tad more appropriate.

10. What's the good/the bad/the ugly? The good: Wonder Woman gets to kick a lot of ass. The bad: Diana seems to sing along every time music is played. The ugly: Diana uses the phrase "we got bidness" at one point; and flip flops between being well-versed in our culture (Halliburton, Brett Favre) and having references go over her head (the aforementioned Katy Perry).

Wow.

^Reactions to that article:

By night, Diana fights crime as Wonder Woman, a Los Angeles-based superhero.

Doesn't make sense for WW to be a nocturnal crimefighter. She's too public and bright a figure for that. Also, Washington would be a better fit than LA.

If they're not going with the classic costume, why even use spandex? I'd be happy with something like the current comics costume.

Nice to see the inclusion of comics characters beyond just Diana and Steve, but the "animals" seem pointless. And overall, I just think I'm going to hate this. I grew sick of Kelley's writing after less than two seasons of Boston Legal, and this doesn't sound any more palatable.

^ I'm actually surprised that this isn't set in Boston.
I've always thought that Boston would make a great location for a second-rate/teenage superhero: its downtown is so small, and its tallest skyscrapers are so low that they almost look cute. (Compared to, say, San Francisco, whose Financial District isn't dramatically larger, but has a number of pretty tall-ass buildings). Ergo, you're right, Boston and WW would get along great! :p

But, since even BL only did occasional shooting in Boston, I guess the network wouldn't go for it...

I guess corny is in the eye of the beholder because I can't think of much in the line of recent superhero film incarnations that was cornier than Watchmen - between Dr. Manhattan's big blue junk waddlin' around, Ozymandias "I wish I was a drag queen" outfit, Silk Spectre 2's complete inability to do anything but have perky nipples in the sex scene, topped off with completely irrelevant 80's angst and Nixon's prosthetic nose, I found the whole thing painfully cheesy.

I agree that corny is inherent to live action superheroes - so anyone smart makes humor a part of the story. Kelley's good at that. Singing along with the radio is an issue - it's very preteen. I see a lot in this which seems to be cute-ifying Diana, which seems to harken back to Kelley's Ally McBeal days when everyone seemed to think a lawyer with a preadolescent body and attitude was the hottest thing walking. Go figure.

Here's my big question - what in the world does she need the Diana Prince persona for? Is it just a way to go about town anonymously? I can't see where it would be particularly useful for anything else.

Likes planes is good. Corporate maven is a little weird but probably okay. I'm all for some sidekicks but why do they live in her basement? Pining for her ex-lover also sounds very Ally McBeal to me.

Leaving my final question - I thought this project get axed a month ago for being too expensive. Is the pilot script just now leaking and this is all oh-what-might-have-been critiquing, or is it back on?

In-story, I guess the idea is so that she has a refuge, a way to feel normal and blend in. Metatextually, I suspect it's to avoid confusing people who only know Wonder Woman from the Lynda Carter series.

Uhh, yeah, we knew that already. Your link is to a 2-week-old article.

Jetfire was answering this question posed in the post above his (hence his arrow pointing up):

Y'know, after reading the Bleeding Cool article, part of me is trying to get really excited and part of me is trying to get on the hate bandwagon, but neither inclination is working. Instead, I'm really morbidly curious as to how this is going to play out on screen. On "paper" it seems confusing to have three identities, but I can't dismiss that outright. Some other elements can be cringeworthy if not played correctly, but could work if the right actress delivers the lines properly (along with everything from the sets to music etc.). I'll definitely watch for a bit to see how it comes out (assuming it gets made).

I liked what I read in the article. Looks like it could be a fun show. I want to see the traditional costume though. Hopefully they'll end up going with it as the show goes into production.

There was a show that happened to be playing on NBC while I was at the gym that is destined to be canceled. One of the actresses on there may be familiar to y'all from FlashFoward, she can hold her own with the action stuff, and I think she would actually fare pretty well as Wonder Woman:
